Dispute the account with the credit bureaus and send the collectors a validation letter.

You are protected under the FCRA and the FDCPA!!! Learn how to repair your credit below:

You should file a police report for ID theft
You should send a letter to the original creditors claiming the account is not yours and include a copy of the police report.
Send a copy of the police report when you file a dispute with the CRA's.

You probably will have a fraud alert placed on your credit reports, but right now that is a small inconvenience to have to put up with.

Many people balk at filing police reports for ID theft when it is a family member that did it.
One thing you have to think about is that your ex had no problems using your credit without your knowledge, running the balance up then leaving "you" to twist in the wind for the balance and trashing your credit along the way.

I would contact an attorney and contact the company that issued the card. Explain to them that you never ordered the card that he obtained it without your consent and therefore is the responsible party for the debt owed. Tell them you can verify that you were out of the country deployed and if they are not willing to work with you, then they can work with your attorney and tell them you intend to file a suit immediately if they do not help you resolve the issue as you know it will and probably is affecting your credit situation. Do not wait call them today!!!!!! If you need further help I am happy to try to advise you. I have worked for attorneys and have helped myself with issues that others told me to give up on "because you can't ever win" and I proved them wrong. PERSISTANCE prevails in my opinion. (Just as a note, it should be extremely easy to prove your case considering you weren't even here and not to mention that he had to sign your name from somewhere or his signature is on the receipts--which can be obtained---from the purchases made).

If you never signed an application for this credit card, they should not be able to hold you responsible. Ask them to show you your signature on the application.
