That's the way I am. I can run forever but I'm really not that fast (It might be because I'm just getting back into running because of a Pe class I'm taking...but even before I really wasen't that fast) is there anyway I can change this? or is it just the way I am?¿

I am the same way! I was told when I was training to be an aerobics instructor that some people have fast-twitch muscle fibers, which make them fast (good sprinters), and other people have slow-twitch muscle fibers (like me), which leads to being slower but having better endurance. Olympic sprinters have been shown to possess about 80 percent fast twitch fibers while those who excel in marathons tend to have have 80 percent slow twitch fibers.

Absolutely. you *can* increase your speed with interval training if you want, but that's painful and may take years. Unless speed is your goal, concentrate on fitness.

If you want to try reducing a few minutes of your 10k PB, try some 800 metre sprints. Warm up, spring 800m, then jog 1 mile, then sprint 800m etc. Do this no more than once per week as it can injure your legs

Pushing the lactic threshold is another way to gain speed. If you can easily run 15km or so (sorry, I work in km), then do some 7km runs at your 10km race pace. Get into a smooth cadence for the warm up, then kick it up a bit. Feel yourself push, but not so much that you're out of breath. That will help you sustain a higher speed.

Yes, you actually can. Don't try to run forever and still try to be as fast as a sprinter. Some people just aren't fast, like me, for example. That's why I do distance running, so my events are the mile and 2 mile. Maybe you could try longer distance running if you have more endurance, so you could be better at it.

Yes. For P.E. when we do sprints I'm the last one done, but when we have to run a mile I'm the first one done.

As far as being beaten by a 32 year old teacher, at that age, he/she should be in peak form.
