My bday was last week and I turned....29 and my cousin made a joke that I have to cut my hair now. Well, not that I took her advice but I ended up geting my hair cut. My hair was to my waist and now its layered with the longest layer right at my bra strap but I have curly hair so when its curly my hair is to my shoulders. I dont know if its because she mentioned it but now, all of the sudden I look older, lol. I feel I do anyway. This haircut it so much more mature then my long hair and am wondering if any other ladies felt this way? Like once you cut your hair, did you feel you looked older?? Mature? I don't look my age, people say I look like Im 18 which is why I tired a different look, plus im expecting (11 weeks). What do you guys think? Is there any truth behind cutting your hair when you turn 29? Has anyone else done it?

I didnt end up cutting it because of what she said. I needed to cut my ends but my ends were so damaged I had to cut 3 inches off, which is why I chose to do a different style, you know sicne I had to cut so much off.

NO you should not cut your hair short unless you want to! I am 37 with 2 kids and have long hair, I love it and it makes me look younger. When I was pregnant people asked me if I was going to get "the mommy haircut" which, I guess is short, I don't know. Anyway, no matter how old you are or how many kids you have, look the way you feel best, not what others say your supposed to. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

The people who say you should cut your hair at 29 are the same ones who say you shouldn't wear a two piece after 35 or shorts after 40. I say, if you look good in them, go for it.
I had long hair my entire life, until I had chemo for breast cancer. I would still have long hair if I hadn't needed chemo.
But, short hair is not bad - just different.
Shoulder length with layers is very flattering and still versatile - you can let it hang, pull it back, ponytail, braid, bun, french twist, etc.
Of course you feel older - you are going to be a mama! AND you cut your hair! two life altering events! But you'll be happy with both.

It is so funny you brought this up. I always thought I was the only one who really thought about it, although I have heard women discuss it. I did cut mine shorter but not short. I did feel more mature and "polished". But in my eyes 29 is still young enough to keep long hair. Besides, I think that idea is shifting. I mean Crystal Gayle hair would be silly in your 30's but certainly OK to your chest. I didn't do it until 2 years ago at 33 yrs. old. Do what feels right to you.

It's all a matter of personal perspective. There's nothing that says at a certain age you have to start wearing your hair short. Do what makes YOU feel good, and wear it the way you like. If you feel like you look younger with shorter hair, then keep it that way. If not, grow it back out. Don't let somebody else's perception cloud your outlook.

I hope it's not true! I'll be 29 next February and I like my long hair, lol. Now I think, and this is just my opinion, that when women become all gray, then it looks better if you have your hair shorter than longer. But other than that, I'm going to have long hair for a long time!

No way! Don't even think about cutting your hair to fit some out-dated social expectation. You should continue to wear your hair the way you like and that best fits your style. :o)

no, I think that´s ridiculous!! I never like real short hair on women, I think a woman should at least have medium length hair even at 60 or older!

No. I just turned 50 and my hair is past my shoulders, and I do not plan on cutting my hair.

Nope. It's just one of those old wive's tales. Your cousin was pulling your leg. I'm 35 and I ended up growing my hair out because it makes me FEEL younger...lol...but it does make me look younger. Do whatever you're more comfortable with, not what someone says you should do.

no freaking way!! looking older means looking old to me.. my mom says when she gets older (she's already 43) that she'll only cut her hair to be shoulder length or longer..
