"Vengeance is mine saith the Lord". A lot of wars are fought "in the name of the Lord or in the name of Allah". I don't know if God approves or not, but its a good excuse for world leaders.

Revenge, or vengeance for a person is an act of hatred; an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth mentality.

Was nuking Japan revenge? For some, it was seen as so. For others, it was an action designed to get Japan to surrender before there were any more lives lost, as it was estimated that at least a million American lives would have been lost during an invasion of the main Japanese islands.

The actions in Iraq and Afgan are seen as a case of going after those responsible for the 9/11 attacks and other attacks on American targets in order to curtail their ability to attack us here by taking the fight to them, and going after them so that they could no longer attack us on the scale they did on 9/11.

But if you feel we should have done nothing, then I suppose you would have no objection to being in the next building they destroy.

No, this is not revenge. Defending oneself against the actions of an enemy is not revenge. Revenge is when you do something to someone who has done wrong to you simply to make yourself feel better. I would hope that the actions of the United States were to hopefully prevent more problems in the future by making certain that the enemy was aware that the US will not allow them to continue attacking us or others for no reason.

You are probably not old enough to remember, but after the bombing of Japan...and the end of the war...the US went back and rebuilt the country for them...just as we are attempting to do in Iraq. That my friend is forgiveness.

How you use the word "we" can make a difference? You see true christians are no part of the world. see(James 4:1-4) 4 From what source are there wars and from what source are there fights among YOU? Are they not from this source, namely, from YOUR cravings for sensual pleasure that carry on a conflict in YOUR members? 2 YOU desire, and yet YOU do not have. YOU go on murdering and coveting, and yet YOU are not able to obtain. YOU go on fighting and waging war. YOU do not have because of YOUR not asking. 3 YOU do ask, and yet YOU do not receive, because YOU are asking for a wrong purpose, that YOU may expend [it] upon YOUR cravings for sensual pleasure. 4 Adulteresses, do YOU not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God.
(John 17:14) . . .I have given your word to them, but the world has hated them, because they are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.
(John 15:17-20) . . .“These things I command YOU, that YOU love one another. 18 If the world hates YOU, YOU know that it has hated me before it hated YOU. 19 If YOU were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because YOU are no part of the world, but I have chosen YOU out of the world, on this account the world hates YOU. 20 Bear in mind the word I said to YOU, A slave is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will persecute YOU also; if they have observed my word, they will observe YOURS also. . .These quoted scriptures are the reason that true christians don't have revenge, you see God say's this: Romans 12:19

These weren't Christian acts, they were acts on the part of the US government.

Contrary to popular belief, the US is not a Christian nation. God already has a chosen people.

According to the Bible, every nation will be against God when Jesus returns.

Well, that is part of what makes it the 'narrow' path now, doesn't it?

Jesus meant what he meant: "But what I say to you is: offer no resistance to injury...If anyone wants to go to law over your shirt, hand him your coat as well."

Now why would anyone, in their right mind, even contemplate doing such a 'stupid' idea? Its human nature to strike back, seek revenge, destroy 'evil'. Evil must be paid, and with blood.

Love your enemies... the guy must be looney? That would require....I don't know....a really strong faith, to be able to say "If you strike me and I am wrong, I will offer no resistance, and if you strike me and I am not wrong, I have faith in the judgement of God to handle this, whatever he desires."

Strong darn faith indeed.
