I live in America, and when I see my family, I give them a hug first, then a kiss to greet them. Saying good-bye, I do the same thing; a hug and a kiss. With my friends, I give them a hug [if they are really close to me] and if they are just acquaintances, I say hello, or good-bye. =]

I was brought up by parents who did not touch their kids at all except for spanking. No hugs, no kisses, nothing at all. Even if the occasion was something that was really memorable, there was no such expression of love among us.
When I got married, I learned how to show my emotion by kissing and hugging my kids, my husband, close friends and some relatives.
It does not matter where you came from. Who you are and what you do are all learned from childhood.

<--- Australia.
I greet family members with hugs and kisses...when I greet them, I say hello and when I'm leaving, I say, "Take care, love you and see ya soon."
Close friends, hugs and kisses otherwise, we just shake hands.
