Just watching this docu on channel four and it's absolutely shocking to see, that drinking twice a week can already cause serious problems to your liver. It's expected that in 20 years a huge amount of people will have a (deadly) liver diease...

Just wonering what you think about this and if it will make you drink less.

Hmmm I'm a little sceptical. They had an MP who drank half a bottle of wine per day, and she had a reading of 3.3 which was low. So I'm not sure I can trust the test.
The whole tone of the programme was sensationalist which always makes me suspicious.
Also they did not give any recommendations. yes 20 units, but how many on a Friday night? If you go up to 30 units how much damage? if any?

Mind you, I'd like to have the test.
I have an open question asking where you can get it (without forking out £250).

I got rid of television a few months ago and I don't even remember if I had a channel 4...maybe...anyways, we live at a time when we could potentially live to be 120 years old. However, the way we take care of our bodies I wouldn't be surprised if most people are sick or dying by 70. Not to be mean but between liver disease from drinking, obesity from fatty sugary foods, lack of exercise, poor nutrition in general, tanning, burning, and lack of clothing being the "in" thing causing skin cancer at alarming rates, Violent crimes turning our country into a civil war and overall poor health of our society, all of these are taking their toll. We are living in a society that puts convenience before health and life is all about the moment. Hopefully someone comes up with a cure for negligence soon.

You need to point out that it is binge drinking twice a week will destroy your liver. You can have a glass of wine or two with dinner and be fine. It will actually improve your blood pressure. Where most people mess up is they don't give it a rest long enough for their liver to recover. Toxicity is in the dose.

no i was not shocked at all, i was however quite surprised by a documentary they showed on bbc-2 a few moontghs ago, that was actually gross it showed people who's skin was Bright yellow and a woman who had a 2 inch wide hole in her neck! and it also showed a terribly depressed man constantly vomiting and they showed the vomit!
so if you want to see a documentary that shows what alchol does the one on bbc was far more shocking.

Depends if you're happy with a liver like an enlarged walnut.

I will be seriously thinking about how often and how much. Gulp.

My boyfriend had to stand by helplessly and watch his ex wife die with liver disease at age42- she knew it would kill her but she couldn't stop! Its so tragic to think that people are dying now at young ages because they have no control and no love for their own bodies.
