i poked at a sore on my elbow and after a day it is swollen, red and hurts. do u think thats a bacterial infection? can it be treated with antibiotics?

it most likely is an infection, whether it is bacterial or fungal will have to be determined by culturing the wound and waiting for the culture to grow so it can be identified.

DanialF has a good idea. In the meantime you didn't say how big it was, how swollen, what's the whole story. If it's real bad you may have to see a doctor. You can get bacterial infections that need special hospital care, like strep infections.

Polysporn ointment, found at the pharmacy it's an over the counter antibiotic. It helps the healing process to (less scaring).

of course it can be treated with antibiotics - see a doctor if needed - in the meantime apply some hydrogen peroxide and antibiotic ointment.

You doctor will no doubt culture the drainage from this to determine the proper antibiotic to give you.
