The Sumerian legend of Gilgamesh is the oldest surviving example but no doubt personification of spiritual qualities is as old as humanity.

That depends on definition of human embodiment.

The Babylonians had it that the god could be made part of the human and therefore a human embodiment of a kind. That is essentially a possetion.

On the other hand The Egyptians believed that the Pharoh was the god Ra. Hence a god in human flesh.

There is some debate as to which group preceeded the other and at which point certain beliefs became prevelent.
I suspect the Babylonians had it first.

The idea of human embodiment/deification is legendized in many faiths, but none other that Christianity teaches that the fullness of God took the form of a unit of His own creation to redeem the world. Additionally, the accounts of Jesus as communicated in the Bible have historical and archaeological merit...

Perhaps a god, or gods, but not the Creator of the universe.

Goddess worship goes back at least 30,000 years.. as for the embodiment, women were thought in many ancient cultures to embody the Goddess when pregnant.. Sumerian texts show the first god-man dying for his people.
