No, it's fighter pilots make movies and bomber pilots make $80,000+ a year flying cargo and passenger planes when they get out.

During World War II, the Germans didn't really have a fighter that could stand up to a squadron of American bombers flying in formation...thus the bomber was the prize of the American military at the time, and you have movies like 12 O'Clock High that highlighted the American strategic bombing campaign. The concept of daylight precision bombing truly turned the war in our favor, especially after we managed to strike deep into German territory and strike at their ball bearing facilities, which in turn seriously hurt their industry.
Anyway, these days, fighters have a much larger role than they used to, thus potentially can make history at some point.

The line has gotten a little blurry now that two F-15E Strike Eagles can carry out bombing missions that used to take massive formations of B17s multiple sorties to complete. Actually, if you added it up, you would probably find that fighters (F15E, F16, A10, F117, F18) drop more bombs on more targets then bombers (B52, B1, B2). Anyway, it's only a matter of time before they both bow down to the mighty UAV operator.
And it would take a bomber pilot to think that making 80K a year driving a glorified bus is a better gig then making a movie :)

Not to step on any toes but the answer is yes. With modern ordinances the fighters have more versatility but the big damage is done by the Bombers. They just can haul more bang for the big missions. The finner surgical strikes may not be big but could change history and that is the stuff movies are made of.

This is true, but fighter pilots would go crazy to fight for their sexy image. But ask any military historians who won the air wars of conflicts in the last thirty years and you will get several opinions. But they will all agree on what cities were and were not destroyed.
