The mistake made by christians when debating evolution vs. creationism is that they assume that scientists have not sincerely and earnestly considered any evidence showing that evolution might be a weak theory and that creation is more plausible.
99% of scientists feel that evolution is true and they HAVE taken in consideration the claims of creationists.
these people are scientist for a living, for christ's sake.
This is what they do.
this is their trade.
how can you feel that you have seen all the evidence you need to see that evolution is junk science, while these people have devoted their entire lives to studying these things and will testify that it is perverse to say that evolution simply does not exist?
could it be that you don't really know that much about the complex of subjects of microbiology and macrobiology and you are basically just taking the word of other people who are affirming what you want to hear?

Imagine yourself sitting face to face with an evolutionary biologist. Do you think that you have enough knowledge that you could argue away evolution and carry on competent discourse with him? No because all you know is that evolution would make it unlikely that god exists and maybe a few simple other things you have heard from other Christians trying to fight evolution. You take THEIR word for it because it is what you want to hear.
Please don’t embarrass yourself by answering with some “proof” that evolution is a fraud. You and I know that you don’t have considerable biology experience. All you know are jingoistic arguments (where are transitions? Increases of genetic info?) that you have seen on the “answers from genesis” website and such. You take their word on things you don’t understand well enough to have a well educated argument on.

There's a reason those creationist question's don't get asked over on the biology board.

I'm still looking for your question in this diatribe.
I don't disagree with a lot of what you said, but I'd add that-- this is also where a lot of creationists AND scientists screw up-- evolution does NOT make it unlikely that God exists. It changes nothing about the existence or non existence of God. Both sides of the argument think that the two ideas are mutually exclusive and therein lies the problem. I believe in evolution and its author-- God. It's true, I don't believe it is incumbent upon scientists to have any response to God since he is not detectable by the scientific method. However, when they say "there IS NO God" they are putting their nose where it doesn't belong. Creationists need to wake up and stop seeing science as an enemy of God. They need to understand that the Genesis is not a textbook made to describe every detail of the making of the Earth. It was written to give all people of all times what they need to understand, simply, God created the Heavens and the Earth and us. Because God didn't go into the mechanics of the origin of species also does not mean it doesn't exist as science claims.

Cara-- if this old attack still cracks you up-- you haven't been listening. NO ONE said we came from monkeys-- we came from COMMOM ANCESTORS with them which no longer exist. Monkeys took one root we took another. Understand it before you mock it.

Excellent question and right on the money. It's painfully obvious from the first syllable out of their mouths that evolution-deniers know absolutely nothing about biology or the scientific method - and they don't care because they think they're doing "the Lord's work."
How did we ever get stuck with these hideous, anti-intellectual and violence-prone monotheisms?! All of them, Judaism, Christianity and Islam are just different sides to the same counterfeit coin they call their religion. All of them lousy with tribalism, blind obedience, murder, torture and infantilism, and responsible for so much misery and destruction over the centuries it's impossible to comprehend the magnitude of the crimes committed in their names.
Science needs to get busy and invent an antidote to religion, asap! Do whatever it takes - put something in the water - anything to make it go away!

What "Christians" are you talking about? Catholics,Eastern Orthodox, fundies? Don't you think you should say? I'm no longer a theist but I was brought up Catholic and I don't recall ever hearing anything about any "debate" on evolution or creationism( what is that? Could you define your terms so people know what what on earth you're talking about?). I don't even know what to make of such a question - unless your world consists of attending fundie services and then going home to grind your teeth. Creationism v. evolution? Are you kidding? Get back to reality - and post an intelligent question on spirituality.

Your 99% ffigure is made up. You seem to take evolution as a fact when those same scientists will tell you it is not a fact. Arguing evolution vs creationism is like saying this way is further than that when pointing at the sky. Neither can be proved conclusively.

Christians go into a debate completely unarmed. It's a totally unfair fight. What makes you wonder, even more than the inane positions they take in a debate with scientists, is that they are willing to enter the debate at all. I have to admit though, it is fun to watch.

I didn't read any further then when you swore on Christs name "for Christs sake" so, you see you have some faith in God in order to use His name in a sentence. I'm sure He will forgive you.
Aren't you a little behind in times my friend. Creationism has been accepted by both the Church and Christians, where have you been. I for one studied at the University Of Minnesota, archeology and anthropology, for some time and we've accepted it in the Church for awhile now, what's you beef?

The "evolution debate" ? "99% of scientists"? Have you asked all of them? If any scientist had sincerely and earnestly considered the evidence, he or she would have reached a different conclusion. At any rate, I choose to trust God rather than any scientist. Oops, I fumbled it up again.

"99% of scientists feel that evolution is true and they HAVE taken in consideration the claims of creationists"
so...where did you pull this little statistic? out of your @ss?
this is what makes your questions so ripe for abuse. you make up crap to support your pov and then get mad when we aren't having any of it...
78% of all scientists are Christian, Jewish or follow some sort of religion in which a supreme being occurs...so your little argument here is made up of that which bears do in the woods...

From a comedienne I saw the other night, parodying a scientist "debating" a creationist... :)
Scientist : "What we see here is hydrogen reacting at the sun's core to produce new compounds. This chemical reaction produces heat and light..."
Creation "Scientist" : "Yes, but sunshine feels like a warm warm hug.... mmmmmm.... from Jesus... "

There is no way they can't fumble. As far as I am (and most of the world) concerned there is no debate.
Evolution is a FACT
"The Theory of Evolution" is still evolving and always will.
