After talking to a few people I have found that the best way to witness to an atheist and others is not to debate them, but to live your lives like you profess. The real power of Christ's light makes itself known when it shines forth in life's darkest hours. Thats why in the bible it refers to "A Tree and Its Fruit" in Mathew 7. So many Christians today profess Christianity, but you wouldn't be able to tell it if you spent a day with them. I'm not here to judge or critisize, but to let you know if you profess salvation and Christianity live it accordingly and people will be influenced by your actions. Everyone can debate all day over disputable matters, but to walk a Christian life will truly shine bright. I know we are all humans and make mistakes, but no matter what our situation may be, there will always be a profound way to represent our Lord.
Question: Who agrees?

this is what someone told me and i think it would help others too...
It doesn't take the Spirit of Christ to be nice to nice people, nor does it take any divine spirit to be generous when one has wealth. Show me a poor person who sacrifices his own necessities for the welfare of strangers. Let me see persons who remain kindhearted to people who mistreat them. Show me a person who knowingly passes up a chance to destroy their enemy. When a person does these things, they are not acting according to human nature, but against it. The most valued attributes of mankind do not come naturally to the human animal; character borrows from the divine.

You are right J.
Neither you nor I can 'convince' or 'argue' someone into the Kingdom of Heaven. That comes from the person's heart, and from the work of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit has to reveal Himself to that person--and then that person has to make a choice. Sometimes the devil takes away the seeds of the gospel right away (re: Parable of the Sower), other times the seeds (the Good News we speak) finds good soil, and takes root right away--or even in 10, 20 years ('cause God gives the increase!).
Our objective is to lovingly spread the seeds of the Gospel to others. Though sometimes we may think that speaking, convincing, arguing, and talking is the best way to do so--the Bible also tells us to witness through our actions. Recall the saying, "Actions speak louder than words." Whether we speak, or act, our actions have to have Love as the focal point, or else our actions are no more than a resounding 'gong' which irritates, and does not help.
I made the mistake a long time ago on a website called xboxclubhouse.com to get into a Creation/Evolution debate with other atheists. Although I presented amazing facts for creation, and against evolution, I did it out of human strength--I was trying to win them over with persuasion, instead of winning them over with prayer. In the end there was a lot of bashing going on (not by me)--a lot of bad words spoken, and, in the end, nothing came of this attempt.
Debates in these types of forums never work. It may pique some interests at best, but for the most part it will annoy most of those who need to hear it most.
All of us must find our best way of communicating the gospel. For some it is one-on-one interaction; others it is through acts of love (actions); and for others still it is communicating to large groups.
God has given us all a means and a mode of presenting the gospel to people. Although many if not most of us may feel uncomfortable presenting the gospel in a specific way, we are called to do so nonetheless.
Let us all pray with sincerity that God will show us the way that is best for us to witness to others.

There is a flaw in your thinking. While I agree, I do prefer to see Christians living according to what Jesus probably would have done, unfortunately, no matter how good you act, I have done this on my own. I never had needed a god to fear me into doing the right thing. Also, my grandmother is about the best Christian I have met and it has never made me want to be a Christian myself. Unfortunately, the place where I think atheist and Christians are actually the same are in the way we behave. I truly believe there are good and bad amongst all of us. The place where we separate is in how we achieve that and what we are willing to believe. No matter how well I live my life, even if it was according to Christian doctrine, I simply don't buy into there being a god. That's what you guys are not understanding. It's not are morality that is so different but the reasons for executing that morality.

I do agree that walking in love is a big part of wittnessing to atheists. I don't think that we should debate or argue but that conversation can be helpul also. The most important thing is to pray that The Holy Spirit get involved, because ultimately He is the one who will do the drawing. May God bring all thoughts into captivity of The Holy Spirit.
God bless!!!
I have to say to "howtospotanathiest that I have wittnessed to a couple of athiests and feel that The Holy Spirit is working in their hearts as we speak. My dad was an athiest and I've been wittnessing to him my whole Christian life. He was saved and baptizrd 4 days before he died. Praise the Lord for that !!!

Two ways to Witness! 1.) By Example. 2.) Simply give the Gospel, NO THUMPING, and walk away unless person has questions. We cannot do the work of the Holy Spirit even though we Love the person!!! John

This is true. I am much more inclined to enter into religious discourse with someone who respects my views and lives by their own. Those Christians I know who are truly "Christ-like" get my respect every time. I still don't believbe the same, but I respect them, and I can't say that for someone who wants to shove their religion down my throat.

Christians are supposed to lived their lives so that the world sees Christ in them. If someone seeks answers, we are certainly supposed to help them; but we are not supposed to debate or argue Christ with anyone. We are supposed to be beacons of light, for the world to see.

You may be one of the first truly understanding "Christians" I have seen on here since I came on. Hypocrisy is and always has been a deterrent for me. The world needs more of YOU.

Live life as a nice person and all we conclude is that you're a nice person. That's great for everyone. But it doesn't follow that there's a god or that Christianity is the only way to be good. There are good muslims, good buddhists, good hindus and good atheists. Why not follow their beliefs?

I agree with your arguing point, nothing gets done
But i disagree with your "actions" point since I know many, many, many who live a good llife without any need for Christianity
That won't separate you as much as you would like it to. There are way too many good non-Christians
