I know how you feel!!! i have a 11 week pitbull, his name is rozko. I got him when he was 6 weeks old.he has been socialized since then. Alot of people think they are born aggressive no they are not. like every other puppy they show behaviors you have to curve those behaviors, like niping at the fingers, jumping. (which every puppy does) they are very misunderstood i take him almost every where i go alot of people think hes a boxer i tell them no hes a pit and they give me this look like i a bad person! They fear him even more because i got his ears cut.. No i cut his ear because i wanted too.
I dont understand if they look up the breeds history they werent breed to fight. You can thank the media for making this breed seem so bad. A chow can bite a kid and they put a pitbull instead of a chow, or whatever breed it is. they put pitbull. I know i change a lot of peoples minds on pitbulls but there are those who tell me hes going to hurt someone or i cant trust him. The proper training he will not.NO BAD DOGS JUST BAD OWNERS!!!

Misguided fear due to a fighting reputation they were given years ago. Any and all dogs bite and can become vicious
especially when the owner trains or mistreats them. You can't
chain an animal or even a human being up for long periods of time and expect it not to become mean. But with both if you show love and affection to them they in return give you
respect, loyalty and love. I have been around and owned many different types of dogs and Pit Bulls was the sweetiest
one.

My APBD, Baby Blue, is the sweetest thing on four white paws. Even my dad who is a professional trainer was appalled when I got him - until he saw what a fine dog he is - after I showed him how well he worked on/off leash - and declared I didn't deserve such a magnificent animal.
What YOU can do is to take your Sweetie to obedience class and work with her to become the most well-trained dog in the neighborhood. Then you can maybe get her into a sport like agility etc. so she can be an ambassador of just what wonderful dogs Pitties really are.
See, once normal, responsible people start to take control of the pitbull problem and show the ignorant public what great family pets Pitties really are - then we pit-lovers can make some inroads against the horrible crimes these magnificent animals are subjected to in the name of quick cash.

Originally, pit bulls were bred to fight, so they were very dangerous. Some people still like that reputation, so they keep them and make them mean. They have a very strong jaw, and when they bite, they can do a lot of damage because they were bred to hold on. My cousin lost a finger when he was playing with his own pit bull, who clamped down and held on. Fortunately, breeders have started breeding them to be family pets, and breed the meanness out of them, but because they're big dogs, and their jaws are so powerful, they can do a lot of damage even if they aren't normally mean. And since they already have the reputation of being mean, a lot of people just assume that even the gentle ones are going to attack.

It is not the breed, it is how they are raised. Because of their reputation as a dangerous breed, being because of the way they are raised, is why there are so many people out there who do hate them. I was just as guilty as the next person until, I was around the mother of my male. I purchased my male 5 years 3 months ago. The very day he was born and had to raise him since he was 2 weeks old. He was born to a litter of 16. I have raised my Harley with lots of love, calm environment, and he knows who his pack leader is. I never allowed anyone to play fight with him or be ruff. He has had his toys and the tug rope. We play catch and tug of war. They love to play and my Harley at 130 pounds still thinks he is a lap puppy.
My husbands cousin got one of his litter mates. Now for the cousin's male, he is very aggressive, and has bitten at least 5 people that I know of and no one cares to be around him. He taught his pup to be that way.
Pit bulls were originally bred to take down Bulls. They were to protect the Rancher from the mean and angry bulls, and to herd them. They were NOT bred for fighting. Man adapted this concept of fighting them because of their strength and jar power and determination.
There are many types of Pits, my male is 1/2 Colby and 1/2 American. I always refer to him as my "Cheesy Pit" My husbands female is an American. There are French pink nose, French red nose, Staffordshire just to name a couple more. They are all of the Terrier group and a working dog. Again, NOT A FIGHTING DOG!!!!!
My Pit Bull Terriers have not been raised around children, but my youngest 2 grandchildren can do what ever they want to them and the worst that either one of the dogs have done is lick them in the face. Once though our female, Sasha, did get on the sofa with our great neice and sat on her so she could not get up. We took that a payback since Skylar kept sitting on Sasha. I know for a fact that my pits would never hurt a soul on purpose, yet they would protect any member of my family if we were in danger.
Pit Bull Terriers are a very inteligent breed and thay is why they can be dangerous.
Over the years I have raised many breeds of dogs, and even had a few mutts as a kid. I will take my Pits any day over any other breed of dog.
If you want to learn more about the breed, go to your local library and do research on them. I will be helpful, it was for me.

right here
To me my Pitt is my kid. The mean dog that she is, she gets beat up by my mothers morky and my two yr old niece can play all over this dog and the dog is just a gentle as she can be.
Liberty is one of the best dogs that I have had.She is a big baby. the only way she will hurt is by jumping in your lap or sitting on you when you lay down (she wights 80lbs). And she is very smart.
One reason people are afraid of Pitts is all the media hype. This happened to German Shepherds, rottes dobermans, ext. They are the dog in vorge right now.

There are a lot of Pitt Bull lovers on this sight but I an not one of them.
I have had more experience with them than I would like. They have proven to me to be very unpredictable, especially when they get older and the temperament changes. I have been at the biting end too many time.

The Staffordshire Terrier has been bred to fight in the US, hence the name 'pit bull'. The dogs get unpredictable and sometimes attack for no reason. I understand they're having problems in England now. People are breeding for aggressive characteristics and they're getting aggressive unpredictable dogs from it.
