Im graduating middle school in 2 days (Wensday) and im abs. petrified. The reason im scarred is because i have an anxiety disorder, & OCD, so i have obsessive thoughts thinking im going to be sick (throw up) and it gets to a point where i get so scarred i feel like i will be sick. (i never am, but i get so nervous i feel as if im gonna)

Im on medician for my anxiety, but how would you suggest calming down? I am going to eat bland foods, drink lots of ginger ale, and have ginger all day long tommorow (the day be4 graduation) but how do i calm myself down so i dont feel so nauses and my heart doesnt race.

Ignore these buffoons!

First, congrats on graduation!

Second, try to remember that the ceremony is of a specific duration - probably about 2-3 hours. Remind yourself of all the other 2-3 hour timespans you've lived through, and how you DIDN'T throw up or "lose it". This one is no different. It's just another 2-3 hours out of your life.

Keep assuring yourself that you can do it, and if it helps, remember that all of your classmates will be there, too. No one (except maybe your parents or relatives) will be focusing on you; they'll all be too wrapped up in themselves and their own kids.

If you find yourself feeling especially anxious, literally tell yourself (either out loud of in your head) "I can do this, I've done it before" - repeatedly, while taking slow, deep breaths.

This is an exciting time and you have nothing to worry about. I know you realize this rationally, but the OCD makes it hard to feel that way at times. You can do it! Be proud!

Don't worry about the panicky feeling--its no danger, and its a normal response when some feels anxiety. So, expect it to happen and just let it come and go. When you start to feel panic coming on, try to relax your muscles and take very gentle, deep, slow breaths. Pretend you are floating or sitting on the beach. Practice relaxation and breathing at home by thinking exactly how you are going to feel during the graduation ceremony. The link has some really good info:

you have a middle school graduation ? I never did. Just don't go, no one is forcing you, why would a doctor prescribe anxiety medicines to a 13 year old ? that is insane.
