condem it as un islamic, and that the people calling for his head are more anti-islamic than he is?
Not just the one by Iran, but also condem religious affairs minister Mohammed Ijaz ul-Haq of Pakistan as a blasphemer who insults the prophet?
including this statement:
"If someone exploded a bomb on his body he would be right to do so unless the British government apologises and withdraws the 'sir' title."

What I'm getting at is...it would be a good thing for muslims to protest the death threats being givin in their name.
That is a big problem, and it would show a lot of guts to stand up and defend someone who you find offensive

No,
If someone wrote a book, called "Everything JP believes is stupid and he is a jerk" I would not call for his death, because:
a) I'm not a psyco
b) I believe in freedom of opinion
c) I can take critisim and get over it
d) I will just write my own book called "The guy who wrote that book about me is an idiot, and here is why"...that would be a fair response

No Muslim in the world condemned the first fatwa in 1989 . . . do you *really* think they'll condemn this one?
I wouldn't hold my breath.
In another Yahoo question, a Muslimah actually condescended to say that the first fatwa ( in ' 89) was "a bit harsh" . . . . "a bit harsh ?!?" ---- death for writing a book ???? Sure gives you an idea of Islamic "mercy" and "compassion".

Yes, that would be unislamic. The Media is probably exaggerating the story as we speak, and is probably distorting information about Islam to make it look like a violent, bloodthirsty religion as we speak, in which it truly is not. Is it just me or has that been its goal for a while now?
If someone had written a book concerning the inerrancy of the Bible, criticizing it and questioning whether or not it is truly the word of God because many editors and publishers have modified it to satisfy their needs and wants, and quoted various verses from the Bible out of context to get a presumed response, wouldn't you be enraged?? (Assuming you are Christian) You do not have to agree with the Fatwah, but you can at least understand why the Muslims are angry.
It would be a good idea for the Muslims to protest the Fatwah, because they do not promote death or death threats imposed on people for such a situation, and if they did not protest something for which they do not agree with, it will look like they do agree with it, when in fact they do not.

No, the fatwa is not a perversion. It is entirely islamic and it can be attested by 2 facts.
A) The Quran itself mandates serious punishment (execution, crucifixion, amputation) on individuals that are "Rushdie" like.
005.033-034
The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter; except those who repent before they fall into your power: in that case, know that Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
B) The many imams, ayatollas from mainstream islamic school that approve of the fatwa.

So... Rushdie's crime is writing a book, and that's somehow less moral than encouraging people to murder him.
I don't really understand some of these people. A senior goverment official, no less.
Omer, many books like that have been written, and still the Christians do not send out death threats.
Are you implying that the quotes from the government offical were made up?
Was the photograph doctored?

I have no idea whats going on.. I want to read that book more then ever now...... but Rushdie is a slim ball who manages to offend every one who reads his books
Edit: I did not say that they should punish him because its his opinion and he can write a total anti Islamic book if he desires (there are a lot of anti Islamic books) I was not implying that he should be punished, I was just pointing out that he is a slim ball..

A Fatwa is a legal verdict not a death sentence and its not binding, they also condemned books about Jesus (upon him peace). The rest of your question doesn't make any sense.
