Pretend you're living in the days of the New Testament. You're a devout Jew, knowing the law up and down, and true to the teachings of the early prophets. Suddenly, there are rumors of a great prophet named Jesus performing miracles and claiming that He is the Son of God, the promised Messiah. You know the Scriptures of the old days and you know One has been promised. You wonder.

Days later, Jesus comes to your town. The Pharisees and Saducees speak against him, and some of your friends do the same. Yet, others of your friends say, I believe He is the one. You're caught. You don't know whether to believe or not. You hear him speak. He IS a great prophet, but is he the Messiah? You fight with yourself. You go home, search the olden Scriptures. You know that your family does not believe this man is the Messiah. You know that tradition would say he can't be the one. Yet, you know what you hear.

Will you accept Him as the Messiah?

Do not think about Christ as you do today. Remember you are a devout Jew and you have just heard and seen this Jesus.

As for me, I truly don't know. With the free rebel I tend to be sometimes, I probably would have opened my mind enough to hear him out and maybe decide, but my skeptical nature would have opposed me greatly. So I truly don't know.

I'd like a yes/no from you, but I'll accept I don't know because I don't know myself. Please tell me why you would or wouldn't as well.

I hate to say it; but I think I'd have to see a miracle performed by Him to believe.

Better scenario:

It's 2007. You go to church, read your bible, do all that is considered right and 'proper' by the teachings you have been given, and feel pretty confident in yourself that you are on the right path.

Then you hear about some looney who goes about town, ministering and preaching to others, based solely upon 'divine authority'. This person preaches really crazy ****, like the divine revelation of reincarnation, the sanctity of marriage for gays and lesbians, even the radical and unorthodox belief that hell is but a temporary place of holding and that all souls are eventually and safely returned to God. Not only that, but this person has the audacity to rain cries of hypocrisy and false spirituality on most of those who pass for 'religious leaders', calling their acts clean on the outside but full of filth and garbage within.

Will not those leaders bring out their sacred texts, their 'ancient' laws to test him by, quoting passage and verse by which to press their case? Will he abide by such 'ancient' texts as expected, or will he reveal the inner truth behind them? Will not such leaders be outraged, insulted that one such as he should 'master' them again and again? Will the proof open their eyes, or will it only reveal how tightly closed they are? Will not their injured pride give them motive to find a way to silence him and his teachings?

Will not a small and select group of those who have listened to, and understood his message, remain, while the rest will turn upon him at the slightest stirring ('agent of the devil', 'blasphemer', 'imposter' ?) Will he not minister to, and find holiness within, such people as others have cast off, saying they are 'salt of the earth' and other such stuff?

Many will say he must be false, only a few will say he is true: now to what direction does your compass point?

I hope I would have accepted Christ then. Just as we have no concrete evidence that He is the one, we still believe because we have hope and faith. I would have to listen to what he said and listened to my heart. I think I would have accepted him more then because there was an actual voice to go with the man. Without hope and faith, we have nothing to live for. Jesus is the Messiah!

I would like to think that I would have followed Him, but I cannot honestly answer that I definately would have. He came into Jerusalem with people praising palm branches before Him and less than a week people were screaming "Crucify Him."

I want to believe that I would have followed Him faithfully, but I also know that I am very prone to sin, so I can't say that I would have.

If I had the same character and personality as I do now.....I don't know....because, I'm not much of a "follower" for the sake of "following"...however, if I had the relationship with God then as I did growing up in the present, I would have simply asked God and gone from there

Peace be with you :)

Yes I would have walked with Jesus back then, just as I do now.
