True. You are the only one that, ultimately, has your own back. Noone else can know your mind or heart. They can only guess. And we know how bad most folks are at guessing what's in another's heart or mind.

Wow!!
Very deep question.
I'd say the answer is False.
But carefully so. Vanity and Pride can be a dangerous thing and often result in people thinking less and less of the individual.
A further result would be greed, to the extent that decision are made without consideration of others.
The adverse is true as well. If you think too little of yourself you likely will never be satisfied with who you are.
I'd rather have others think well and speak well of me when I am not around anymore.
A little devil's advocate for all the "TRUE" answers you received.

Absolutely true!! People are too concerned about what someone else thinks of them. We are holding the opinions of others too high and ignoring how we feel about ourselves. We strive to be accepted by other people when we are not striving to be loved and accepted by ourselves. Young girls beat themselves up to be pretty enough and skinny enough so that a guy can accept them. Some guys will do the SAME thing. We need to go to the thought that we are the most important opinion consultant we have.

Absolutely true. You know people will criticize you no matter what choice you make so you may as well be true to yourself and do what you want to. If you don't love yourself first, no one else is going to love you. If you like yourself, you effect how others will treat you. However, you should listen to what others say about you. If they are all saying the same thing, like you tend to be very bossy - then maybe that is true. so it is good to get feedback from time to time.

Illyria,
This is Very True! However, if you really love and care about others then you must also think a great deal of yourself. I am a Christian who truly cares more for others than I do of myself some days. Thank you for this opportunity to express my feelings.
Yours,
Eds

Soft false. Studies have shown that the group with the highest self-esteem are.... prison inmates.
But totally true for law-abiding citizens.

Mostly true, however.....
For example, I could think I'm the greatest mom in the world, but I'd rather the opinions of my kids dictate whether or not that is true. Their opinion on that topic outweighs mine....and it should.

True, and do not take anything personally, nothing that others do is because of you, what others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dreams.
When you are immune to the opinions and actiobs of others you will not be the victim of needless suffering.

True, I use to let people put me down when they said I was weird and I needed to be locked up for my own protection. Now I just ignore them and I refuse to let people make me feel bad when I play with matches.
