Find a job that pays the bills and make art your hobby or sideline until you can find someone who will buy your artwork. Freelancing is tough if that's what you are doing, and children are expensive. Even if you have to take a crappy job somewhere to make ends meet, think about how you are providing for your child's needs.
Perhaps you could draw some pictures of your child at each stage of his or her life, then keep them in a scrapbook. I bet no other child would have such a keepsake later in life!

Another alternative might be to channel your creativity in other directions such as photography (there's always a need for them) or computer graphic design.

Good luck and congratulations!

I'd suppose the best answer is hopefully being a father may inspire you to create art so captivating that it would then pay the bills.

If its an issue of balancing your dream and bills, perhaps a "work at home" business or if you can work part time to help ends meet would make it easier while providing a safe and nurturing household for your child.

Unfortunately raising children is expensive! Most people don't have the money to raise children yet here we are with them! Love your child unconditionally and don't give up on your art. You do need to prioratize things better though ... maybe get a parttime job to make ends meet and stay up late doing your art work. Your child's needs suddenly become the most important thing! Good luck to you

Find another source of income and do music or which ever type of "art" you do in your spare time. As a single mother who's ex is a struggling artist as well, put your child first!!!

Spend time bonding with the baby, hold and feed him/her. As for money I hope that changes but in the meanwhile see what programs are available to help you, call the local board of social services.

Well, unfortunately kids are pricey and you should persue a job with a steady income. Not to say give up on your art, but you need to rearrange your prioities a bit. That's what being a parent is.

I assume graphic art, not music, etc, right? ... It is hard to be an artist... these ideas arent guaranteed to work, but are somewhere to start... go to all the local galleries and present your work.... try online artist promo sites... sometimes you can post work for sale without a fee (or small subscriber fees)... local coffee houses and chocolatiers may hang your work for sale in their stores...
