My 4 year old will eat anything, rather it taste good or not. Is she lacking in something. She's not hungry and it's not really a habit. She puts anything and everything in her mouth. I can see a small child doing this but she is 4 1/2 now. Yesterday it was dog food AGAIN, also lotion, soap, money, buttons, cat food last week, sand, gravel etc. anything that can go in her mouth does, edable or not

Check out this link below. They talk about an eating disorder where children eat nonfood items as well as other reasons they may eat them. I would definitely ask her doctor. Good luck.

Keep all the dangerous and human non-edible stuff she shouldn't be eating out of reach from her. She needs to know what is acceptable to eat and what is not. Maybe you can arrange a low shelf with the foods she can eat, and let her pick and choose.
If she is eating dirt, she may have an iron deficiency and should be looked at by her pediatrician.
All in all, I'm sure this is a faze that will pass. Good luck!

Keep it away from her. At their age they'll get into anything they can, all these types of chemicals should be locked away from the child, not simply put on a high shelf. They've got a lot of ingenuity already and can learn to get where the want to with a little time. Just purchase a few hardmounted door brackets and some little key locks, put it on your medicine cabinet (if possible) or another cupboards elsewhere in the house. Better safe to lock up these item, your meds and any chemical cleaners in your home than to have a toddler in the ER suffering and overdose or accidental poisoning.

There is a condition called Pica (I'm not 100% sure of the spelling) where a person will eat anything. They can't or don't distinguish between food and nonfood stuffs. I worked with a man who had this, we had to be careful to keep certain things locked away. One of his favorites were cigarette butts off the ground or from the ashtray. He would also start to shred his jeans and eat the treads when he wasn't occupied with something. Ask your doctor to consider this and provide you with some information. If she were to get into any medicines or chemicals it could be quite dangerous. I wish you both the best, good luck.

Tell all this to the pediatrician, she may have a deficiency that she is trying to fill this way-don't delay on this one.
