Whether that spirituality is Christian or Wiccan or just an inner sense of peace, do you feel like the US has lost touch with spirituality as a whole? We seem so superficial compared to eastern cultures (to me). Even our major spiritual belief system has become commercialized (e.g. mega churches). Have we lost touch with real spirituality? What is the remedy? What will be the next spiritual path the country takes as a whole?

The US is virtually spiritually bankrupt

Consumerism rules and will continue to do so. And we will drag the rest of the world down with us.

Looking at the history of the USA and at the system of values that has been set and developed, which was mainly focused on material development, the American dream, I would have to say that America was not founded on spiritual basis.

However, would like to note that Americans are slowly realizing that materialism is not the final goal and have started slowly to turn to spirituality.

Actually considering the direction US is going, the only thing that can save it is if people start doing real spiritual practice.

"the only thing that can be termed as development of the individual is the process of becoming divine through spiritual practice and the only thing that can be termed as development of humanity is inculcation of righteousness in each and every aspects of society" -

Actually, I think quite the opposite. America has experienced an overload of Spirituality- walk through the streets of big cities like NY or Chicago- it's all spirituality. The problem is that America has lost it's appreciation of religion. If you ask me, the generation is just too lazy to try to understand religion, and they turn to spirituality and justify it because it's easy.

gJack got it.

america was founded on the lack of spirituality with theft of the spiritual practitioners' means of practicing on the lands that are now US lands. americans are on stolen land far disconnected from our heritigal centers. having little or no "energetic connection" to the land they inhabit, americans have no spiritual basis on the american continents for which to practice effectively

a mish-mash of practices divide a nation, not the reverse.
there is a weak and turbulent common energy that exudes from such a nation.

westerners are actually being encouraged to give up any notion of "higher powers".
if people were truly empowered with the energies the universe is poised to deliver us, religion would fail to provide a necessary aspect of our lives.

and this, clearly, is not in the best interest of religious leaders whose lives are dependent on their followers.

so to answer your question:
no, it is something that cannot be lost but can be hidden or buried.

so, perhaps it is time to wield the shovel or draw back the curtain?

I think that every thing in America is geared toward speed. Fast food, get rich quick, fast forwarding commercials, etc. because of this we forget to take time to relax, meditate, and come back to our spiritual roots. Don't worry as soon as some wanna be guru comes of with the 10 second enlightenment we will get our spirituality back. :) If it isn't instant gratification the average person does not want it.

i think the next step is restoring nature. we are at crucial moment of our existence. once we reconnect and develop our love for the planet and work together for it's health and all our brothers and sisters, we will establish a true spiritual connection in the process. the process has already begun. people just need to tap into it and participate. there is also a lot to be learned from original people of this land. once we join hands with them, we will begin to see even greater shifts.

Actually as we shed the yolk of Christianity I think more people are open to developing their spiritual aspect.

It needs a good health care system far more than belief in invisible flying creatures.
