Is it okay to call yourself a Christian if you only believe parts of the Bible and not the whole thing? I wonder what people think If the Christian Faith's foundation includes the Bible, are you still considered a Christian if you do not believe it?

How can you call yourself a Christian and not read the Bible? Jesus read the Bible and quoted it often. That is not being Christlike.

Well, considering that the Bible tells us everything we know about Jesus - and that even the old testament is a great big giant arrow pointing toward Jesus... no, if you don't believe the Bible, I don't think you can truly be a Christian.

Many people call themselves Christians that don't act like it; they don't know what it takes to become a Christian; they've never read the Bible; and have no concept of what faith is. If you don't know at least that much, you probably shouldn't call yourself a Christian.

Christian only means follower of Christ. So if you read the Bible and focus on Jesus' words - skipping what Paul, Peter, and others have said...then you can still call yourself Christian.

This is Christianity, not Paulianism.

No. You can't pick and choose parts of the christian doctrine to believe in and then call yourself a christian. It's like saying you are a law-abiding citizen but you don't agree with the fact that rape should be illegal so you've granted yourself that exception. If you commit the act of rape, you immediately nullify yourself as a law-abiding individual and if you are caught, you will be prosecuted accordingly.

Only Bible-ians will tell you that you can't be a Christian unless you believe the Bible to the letter.

You can be a Christian without even believing that the man ever existed, if you follow his example.

To shaolt (below)... I know your question is rhetorical. What scares me is that I don't know which way.

As you grow older and seek truth more and more, you should call yourself that which you are. Give it a name.

Generally fundamentalist traditional churches are social organizations that can launch your career for instance.

But if you are true to yourself and others are true to themselves, newer more truthful organizations can be established and we can get down to the real business of healing and life.

Yes it is ok. The vast majoriy of Christians worldwide don't believe in the inerrancy of the bible. There are even some types of Christianity where believing in god is optional.

Depends what it is and your reasons for rejecting it..... But think of it this way, if you believe in God, what position would you rather be in....

a) "I'm sorry God, I believed every word!"

b) "I'm sorry God. I thought that was just ridiculous mythology invented by men to enslave humanity"
