They want the document to be in a MS Word format. If you don't have Microsoft Word as your word processor then you should consider getting it and installing on your computer... especially if you intend to be a writer.

When you save a document with Word, it will, by default, be in the Word format and your publisher will be happy.

Also, you can get Open Office for free, and install that and save documents in the Word format, but why not get the real deal and just make it a tax write-off.

There are several ways to get Word, as an office suite, as a stand alone, the Student & Teacher edition. Check with your local office supply or computer store.

The easiest way would be to use either OpenOffice.org (download it from: http://www.openoffice.org/) or use GoogleDocs (http://docs.google.com/) Either way, you'll be able to use the DOC format.
