Thinking about buying a plasma TV for $850. Do you think the warranty would be worth it for $400? Would I be justified in doing it?

depends if the manufacture covers 90 days fully or a full year. It is a gamble but if you decide not to make sure to get a power conditioner and good cables.

No, definitely not. Even without spending the extra $400, you are still covered under the manufactuer's warranty, depending on the brand, usually its a year. The way price drops on plasma, by next year, all you need to do is spend $200 on top of the $400 you saved on warranty to get a new one. Why spend it now and be stuck with an older version for years to come.
