Old wives tale.
Take a white potato, cut it in half. Rub the the cut side on your wart every night before bed and don't wash it off til morning. Do it every night for two weeks. See if you don't notice the difference. Then keep it up til the wart is gone.
Weird! but seriously, it worked for me. I had them burned off, cut off, everything in high school. More would just come back. My grandma told me about this. It took about a month for mine to go away and it never came back.
And if it doesnt work, it was cheap and easy! Its worth a try, they are just potatoes, it wont hurt you.

There are LASER treatments that burn them off. It's painful (for a very short time), but it works very well, and it gets the "root" of the wart. It only takes one-time in the office, too.
I don't know who offers this, in your area. Contact a doctor's referral service in the yellow pages.

i've had them before and have one now . use the old-timey "compound-w" (salicylic acid) type wart-remover and pumice well between applications. about 2-3 times a day. takes a few weeks, but they will go away.

Even if a doctor will not freeze them off, he/she may prescribe a cream that will dissolve them over a period of time.
Cream called Aldara.

Planters warts usually have a long root ~ you need to see a podiatrist ~ or foot doctor to have them completely removed ~ they may have to dig deep to remove it ~
