This really bothers me okay! people ask questions about their dog (pitbulls) and they say why dont you get rid of him before he hurts a baby! this is really out of control i have a pit and he wouldnt hurt anything! I mean have you ever owned one or do you go by what the "news" says? I think it isnt right if i had the chance to change how people feel about this breed i would. my pit is very well behaved, well he most of the time hes still a puppy. I have so many people come up to me and say is he going to bite me! Its desturbing hes about 2 feet high. he wants to get to you for you to pet him and him to lick you to death. My pit is around people and many types of dogs all the time! I just wanna know how you feel about this? you could make a lil poodle mean!

I agree with you. There has been too much bad press on pit bulls.

I have a mix and she's awesome. The other day at the park she licked a toddler's tummy! I was holding her, of course and the baby's mom was right there - a totally controlled situation.

But there are a few bad owners out there who do not train and socialize their dogs. And, some who do use them for fighting...

It is up to us responsible owners to get the word out and be breed ambassadors! I took my dog to CGC training (canine good citizen). This way if anyone asks, I can say she's had her training, have you?

If it really bothers you, leave it alone. Don't worry about it. What is bothering everyone else is all the questions about pit bulls here, every day. Ok, we got it. If and when they get banned, everyone that wants one, can still have one, just like they do here is South Florida where they were banned 10 years a go and if you want to buy/own a pit, you can just open the paper and buy one. There are thousands of them out there, under a ban. No one will ever be able to fully enforce a law like this. It has not worked in the past and it will not work in the future. If my breed were to get banned, I would still own one because I think it's the most awesome dog there is. How many more times must we hear about how great pit bulls are? Mercy........

i agree with you 100%. my 8 month pup is boxer and sharpei mix. everyone EVERYONE thinks he's a pitbull and when he is happy and playing the hairs on his back stand up. it's not being aggressive...i think he's jst excited playing with the big dogs, he wants to look big. he does it with us all the time.

i dont listen to the media at all about dogs. i think it's about 99.9% hype. if dogs of such breeds are mean then shouldnt they be banned? if that were the case, then we would not have any dogs in this country. go ask any package or mail carrier personel. they can tell you that they've been attacked by all types of breeds. but none get the most attention as the pitbull. why? of course, unfortune circumstances, they were the breed used for dog fighting. and i dont really think they were bred for such purposes.

have you ever gone to a shelter? notice that about 75% of the dogs are pits or pit mixes?? and they are young. it breaks my heart to see people pass them up.

I totally agree with you!! I do not own a pit and never have but have several friends with one and my next door neighbor has one named honey and she is the sweetest dog in the world!! She jumps the fence and plays with my Akita all the time. You see my family use to breed and show Rotts years ago and we also would get the "Dose you dog bite?" I have heard several people say you can never trust a pit. I do not agree. Bad owners make bad dogs, bad breeders make bad dogs!! Mostly back yard breeders make bad dogs!! I will agree there are not bad dogs just people who should;d have never had a dog in the first place!!

The reason Pits have the bad name is because of people who bought them to make them mean because of their look. Stupid people who fight dogs and feel they have to beat them in order to make them guard the home, people who chain them to trees in the back yard, people who leave the dog in the yard all the time with no one to play with them and give them attention, people who buy that cute little puppy and then when if grows up throw it out because they are not cute anymore. People are to blame for the breeds bad name not the breed. I can say this a thousand time "THERE ARE NO BAD BREEDS JUST BAD OWNERS!"

You are right about the media hype and therefore many people are afraid..unfortunately this particular breed (and others) has been known to be bred for fighting and that is what we hear about. Any breed can turn on it's owner really..it's what the puppy's parents were like, where the pup was bred and how it is brought up and treated that counts..be sure you are completely informed and knowledgeable about your pet and its breeds' history-how to train and care for your new companion. You will have a lifetime of unconditional love!

I totally agree. Last week I had to put my beloved rottweiler boy to sleep due to his cancer becoming too painful. Unfortunately everything had been done that could be done. My baby was the sweetest dog ever. I have a 26lbs mix who is 100% more likely to bite than my rottie ever was.

It all comes down to training and socializing your dog, no matter how big or small. I used to work for a vet and I got bit several times by small dogs like mini poodles and pomeranians.

Some people are ignorant. The sweetest dog will turn aggressive if that's what you teach them. Pit bulls are very strong willed and strong,so if you are already having issues with puppy overexuberance and, you might try Petsmart's training classes. As for the people who make those comments,it's only because they don't know better.Tell them that dogs that do those things are undersocialised dogs that have been kept segregated and abused, typically.Invite them to come to training class with you and see how smart and social your puppy really is.

Most people are swayed in their opinions of a variety of breeds when they hear about the rare attacks from dogs that were poorly raised and trained. It's sad that this occurs and what is more sad are the irresponsible owners who raise thier dogs poorly and permit or even encourage aggressive behaviors which in turn give many breeds such a bad rep.

FYI Standard poodles were used by the military before they found that German shepards actually love to attack.

Most all bully breeds are wonderful. What pisses me off is that instead of making it mandatory to spay and neuter sop as not to reproduce and keep them out of the hands of those that train the pits the law requires the decent people to go without the hands on knowledge of the most loyal breed.

I agree. Most times, people make the dog bad. Other times, dogs can just go wild and that is the chance you take. Mothers and Fathers need to watch their children and proper planning needs to take place before a family gets any animal.
