It's called fear. Fear of the unknown. They get comfort from having someone tell them it will all be OK. They are like children or pets that prefer to be told what to do and taken care of.

1.) Why do you assume all Christians are brainwashed. Right off the bat you're making blanket statements and being confrontational. isn't this supposed to be a forum to discuss thing logically. For someone who is supposed to be logical you're acting like a 12 year old (no offense to 12 year olds.)
I, myself, though I was raised in a Christian home was not immediately a Christian and for a time I was a "normal guy". (I did the bars and clubs and all the other crap). I made a new choice as an adult and it's made all the difference.
2.) Is the point of this email to convince Christians that the great experiences that they're having are some how false. It won't work.
3.) Do you feel better having written this? Like something has been accomplished?
I'm not answering your question because there isn't one. Just wanted to respond.

This is what I personally think. I don't believe in god because just like you said it seems ridiculous. However many people turn to religion to have structure in their lives. Religion helps to explain the unexplainable and so it make sense that people still continue to believe in it today. We don't really no what happens when we die and this really scares some people. Thousands of years ago there were gods that would explain something that people didn't understand such as an echo or a reflection. It seems silly to us that there were gods for that since we can now scientifically prove what a echo or reflection is, but we still cannot prove what happens after we die. Thus "god" and religion continues to be apart of many peoples lives...

Some people NEED to believe in something. In my experience most non-believers came from households that weren't very religious or spiritually based to begin with and most "believers" come from households that worship in some form or fashion. Just as God and Jesus are in your mind "fake", they're as real as anything gets in someone else's. The beautiful thing about the human mind is that we all can think and make decisions on our own, individually and our minds are as diverse as our bodies. Evolution or creationism, they both exist in the eye's of man.

Think about this: People are not brainwashed. But perhaps the issue is that unbelievers are ignorant i.e., "lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified" (Webster's definition). Evolution is scientifically impossible. Your lack of belief will not change the fact that God is real.

It all comes down to the fear of the unknown. Death is a destination for all of us. The rational mind cannot comprehend death and nothingness, the the mind creates fanciful fairy tales in order to cope. Its the same reason children make up imaginary friends...to find comfort in answers you do not know.
It is indeed sad. I would rather be sad, but know the truth, than be happy and believe in a lie.

What will you think if,, that day comes and you were wrong ??? I have a personal relationship with God,, I am Thankful that He seeked me out,, I now have someone I know that will be there when I need Him,, What ever problems I have I lay at His feet and know with peace that they will be taken care of,, I would rather Worship God for the rest of my life here on earth,,and be wrong than to not worship Him and not believe in Him and find out at the end that He was real...

The First Torture that constitutes hell is:
The loss of God.
The Second is:
Perpetual remorse of conscience.
The Third is
That one's condition will never change.
The Fourth is:
The fire that will penetrate the soul without destroying it. A terrible suffering since it is a purely spiritual fire, lit by God's anger.
The Fifth Torture is:
Continual darkness and a terrible suffocating smell, and despite the darkness, the devils and the souls of the damned see each other and all the evil, both of others and their own.
The Sixth Torture is:
The constant company of Satan.
The Seventh Torture is:
Horrible despair, hatred of God, vile words, curses and blasphemies.
These are the Tortures suffered by all the damned together, but that is not the end of the sufferings.
Indescribable Sufferings
There are special Tortures destined for particular souls. These are the torments of the senses. Each soul undergoes terrible and indescribable sufferings related to the manner in which it has sinned.

Why would an otherwise reasonably intelligent person dogmatically insist that something/someone doesn't exist, on the basis of nothing more than lack of personal experience?? Especially when millions of other reasonably intelligent persons claim to have personal experience of the entity in question??

because obviously something written 2000 years ago has all the answers for life and that some magic deity that we can not see hear, touch, smell, taste, etc must be real.
Oh and all other books that say their magic deity is the real one are just evil lies conjured up to send people to hell.
