Pretty much i just got my system in. I went ahead and kept the stock head unit. My question is is upgrading it really worth it. The stock unit i have now isnt to bad its a 07 dodge charger. Also i hear that replacing the head unit will make my subwoofer louder do to something about the signal strength or signal line?

Aftermarket HU's will almost ALWAYS improve sound quality.

Higher preamp voltage DOES NOT mean 'more volume', but higher signal quality.

Stereo systems, like anything else, are only as strong as the weakest link. In this case, the HU.

It will make EVERYTHING, as well as your subwoofer, sound better.

Good Luck!

Not only the sound quality will be much better, but also the audio signal voltage (pre amp voltage) is higher than a stock radio. That means that the power of the input audio signal sent to the amplifier will be much powerful thus increasing the volume of the system. This is the voltage that is match with the input gain of the amplifier. If the aftermarket has 4 v of pre out voltage, then you must set the gain for 4 v to optimize your system.

Unlike the first poster above, I have personally installed hundred of amplifier systems into vehicles with both factory radios and after-market head units. With factory systems, we usually use a device called a line-out converter to convert the speaker-level output to a low-level signal for the amplifier. And in virtually every case, I have to use a higher gain setting for amps with after-market decks than I do with factory head units and line-out converters. In other words, the amplifier DOES NOT get a higher pre-amp input voltage from a typical after-market deck than it does with a factory radio and a decent line-out converter. Even if it did, it would NOT mean that the amp on the after-market deck would be louder; that's exactly the function of the gain control: to allow the amplifier to produce its full power with a wide variety of input voltages.

So, based on years of experience and hundreds of installations, there's is NOT a significant sound quality advantage to an after-market head unit over a factory head unit with a good quality line-out converter. There might be other reasons to replace the head unit: you might want additional features like independent subwoofer volume control, iPod controls or auxiliary inputs, etc. But the idea that an after-market deck will make your subs louder is absolutely not true.

there are no enterchangeable face on any variety of head unit yet you will could purchase the hot unit that can help your ipod and then it will be ordinary to alter reason you wont could purchase any converters to evolve to the wireharness reason jvc has in no way replaced theirs.
