DO NOT give any of the children weapons. Kids carrying knives around could hurt themselves and others. Check with your parents and tell them your concerns. Make sure the type of locks on your doors are deadbolts. These are locks that are very hard to manipulate from the outside. Make sure the deadbolt lock has a 'turn knob' on the inside. Your parents do not want to buy one that needs a key. In any emergency at all you will need to get out quickly, and trying to find the key for the deadbolt slows things down.
A motion detector is also a good idea to have outside the door. Any motion from the outside will either sound an alarm or turn on the light. These items can be easily deactivated when someone else is home with you.
Notify your neighbors (that are home the same time you are babysitting) that you will be in charge of children while your parents are away. Get their phone number and give them yours. This way you have other people looking out for you periodically.
The main thing is to talk to your parents about the man coming to the door situation. Once someone gets into the house who intends to do you harm, it's already too late to call 911 for assistance. This is an 'after the fact' situation and does neither you or the children any good. It's worthless to bring a baseball bat or a knife to a gunfight.
I wish you luck!

In the olden days it was different. You could have said if you chop a half a tone of wood I'll make you some sandwiches and a cup of tea or coffee and the wanderer would be on their way.
Now day's there is a big problem with some strangers taking a passing opportunity to do something very nasty.
The other is, if the person did try to break in, then get the kids to start yelling and kicking the burglar too death one way or another. Then there are those smelly nappies that could be thrown at this person.
If that doesn't work, then ask the person can they change a nappy or two.
If the person is not scared off by then, then this person is very dumb in-deed.

Wow, thats really scary. First of all, did you let anyone know about this man? Let parents and the officials know when you see something like this. Make sure you get a good description of the man too. Height, hair color, clothes, race..things like that. Make sure that you have the alarm set at all times. Check all doors and windows to make sure that they are locked and secured. Something else to keep in mind is that you want to make sure that the kids are aware what to do when a stranger is near. Make sure they are not answering doors or sometimes the phone(you just never know). Don't answer the door if you don't know who it is. Asking your parents if they can get you some pepper spray and make sure you know how to use it. All in all, if you feel unfortable and suspicious then call the police right away. Hesitation could lead to a terrible outcome.

That is a lot of children to be looking after for someone of your age at once. I suggest talking to your parents about how you feel. You should also make sure the doors and windows are locked and secured, and your interior alarm is on. Someone looking into your house doesn't necessarily mean they want to harm you, but you should always have a neighbor or two on alert when you are home without an adult. If you see or hear anything suspicious, feel free to call the police. That is what they're there for.

First, try locking the doors. Second, put blinds or something to cover his vision of you. If he doesn't know that adults aren't home, he probaly won't strike. If he does, the buzzer of ADT will freak him out. If he is still coming at you, use something as a weapon such as a knife, fork, or a metal object of some sort.
Also, if he visits often, try and get a Restraining Order, so if he does come, you can call the cops immeditaly, instead of waiting for him to due something against the law.

in my neiborhood, you and the 11yr old and the 12yr old would go to the kitchen and grab the biggest butcher knives in the drawer. then you would rush back to the door and stand there like a group of wild animals, flailing the knives around, while begging the bumb to break into your house. meanwhile, the 4yr old can call 911. this is called: the agressive method. you rob the guy that tries to rob you. it works every time. you see, if a bumb or even a seasoned burgler encounters more than one crazy moofoo willing to cut his throat if he enters the home, he will always try the next block where a 90yr old lady just might suprise him with the same technique. either way, the guy is going to get his throat cut. bare in mind, this is what would happen if you lived in my neiborhood. you should try this method if the same circumstances were to arise again.

It's unlikely he will come back, but it is wise to keep the house and property well lit and visible. Porch light? Keep it on. Keep lights on by all entrances, front and back. Don't advertise the fact that no adults are home. Keep the garage door, if there is one, closed. Have a TV on. Always have emergency phone numbers at hand. If it makes you feel safer, keep a baseball bat handy and do not be afraid to use it.

Even with a weapon, there may not be too much you can do to him physically. The best advice I can give you is get a bat just in case he tries something but just keep your doors/windows locked and if you see him in the area again call the police so they can tell him to leave the area.

well if you ahve adt set the security on when you are in the house, you know that setting. Always have a telephone near you in case. I would also have like a baseball bat or watever handy. Keep the lights in your house on so it seems like people are in other rooms. You could possibly notify the police via non emergency number and report a suspicous man wandering hte neighborhood. You should also warn the neighbors.

Press the panic button and immediately get you and the kids out to a trusted neighbors house using an exit that is on the other side of the house from where the burglar is.
