Okay, I'm a guy, but since you're talking about a guy I thought I'd throw in my two cents. Getting braces when one has very poor or no health insurance that covers dental visits is very expensive. Perhaps the person with the gap just can't afford to go to a dentist to fix the problem.
In this case you either accept the person the way they are or move on. A gap between ones teeth does not take away any of the personality or kindness of an individual.
If you were married, would you divorce your wife because she had to have a breast removed? I hope not.

My bf has a gap. You know in Italy, a gap between the front teeth is considered sophisticated and intelligent.

A gap doesn't bother me. What would is if it looked like he had poor oral hygene.
