What i mean is that as time goes on, certain parts of the bible seem to change, in a way, or just chosen to be believed a different way. Parts of the bible become ignored like many sins.

Things that changed for example:
Earth was the center of the universe
Slavery is somehow justified in the bible.
Cutting your hair/shaving is a sin. Along with many other that are apparently OK to break. Or they are at least done on a daily basis.

God sent his prophet to threaten David with how many years of famine?
Seven (2 Samuel 24:13) OR Three (I Chronicles 21:12)?
Along with the other 1001 contradicting verses in the bible...

Got anymore?

How do you know which parts are ok to follow?

Over the years people have mixed culture with religion, and have made their own versions of improperly paraphrasing all religious texts. One needs to look at the context of the scripture, rather than "cutting and pasting" things that only support their position.

A friend of mine at work did mention that the bible can be construed as the world most dangerous book--because of the many people who have improperly been using what they have read. This can also apply to other religious texts as well.

We all need to be educated--spiritually and morally-- and live with tolerance. Not all of us are right, and not all of us are wrong. In the great end, maybe we all were right!!!

Hope this helps.

For me, I just follow the whole thing. I don't try to dissect the Bible and pick out parts that I think are right or wrong. This is because if I think it's wrong, then I'm wrong. If I think it contradicts, then I am misunderstanding. The Bible is pretty simple and basic but most of us try to over complicate the whole book. It's as simple as LOVE. Love God. Love people. As long as we remember that, the entire Bible starts to make sense!

Thanks for the question. Be blessed.

"All Scripture is Inspired by God and is Profitable for Teaching, for Reproof, for Correction and for Training in Righteousness, that the Man of God may be Adequate, Equipped for Every Good Work." (Tim. 3:16). Heb. 4:12 says; "For the Word of God is Living and Active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it Penetrates even to Dividing of the Soul and Spirit, Joints and Marrow; it Judges the Thoughts and Attitudes of the Heart." We are to follow it All, with the Help of the Holy Spirit who will Enlighten Us as to what Scripture is Saying to Us. John

I'll try and answer as many of your examples as I can.

The first 1: Where exactly does the universe end? How big is it? How do modern humans measure distance in the universe?
2: What verses are you speaking of in this one? God clearly condemned slavery in Exodus.
3. Could you tell me what verses say this?

As for God sending his prophet to David, both verses say in my Bible that 3 years of plague was one of his options. I'm not sure where you got seven from.

That's up to you to decide. If you want my advice, believe the parts that make sense and have corroborating evidence. If you've seen a snake talk (besides in a Harry Potter movie, I mean), or the sea part, believe in those. If not - well, use your best judgement.
