I'm eternally thankful to Jesus for taking upon Him my sins. However, I do not think it is appropriate to celebrate His life, His ministry by wearing the very vestige on which He died.

There are a lot of people that have died on the cross. That isn't what made Jesus's sacrifice so unique and special. He could have died in any kind of way, execpt for the prophecies. But the method wasn't as important as the sacrifice. Instead of a cross, I try to use my life as a symbol.

I celebrate the resurrection by wearing an empty cross.

The truth of the matter is that Jesus said before His death; that when He is lifted up, He will draw all mankind to Him. Signifying how He would die.

I like the empty cross, some like the cross with a tortured innocent man on it. I believe crucifixes are powerfull symbols that show us how evil the sinful nature of mankind can get. But yet, Jesus being sinless defeated the curse of death for us & raised from the dead so we also will raise from the dead victorious over death at resurrection day complete.

In response to Steve. Jesus is represented on the cross for a couple of reasons. The first is we are united to him at our death too so we venerate the cross that keeps our sins nailed to it as we go free with Jesus.

The second thing that people do not think about is during the Old Testament, Moses was told to fashion a bronze serpent and attach it to a pole and have the people in the camp look at that serpent attached to the pole in the camp when they had been bitten by the serpents that were allowed into their camp because of their behavior. Then they would be healed but, if they did not look at the serpent on the pole they would die. Now, he did not say attach the serpent then take it down and then tell the people to look at the pole. He said LOOK AT THE SERPENT ATTACHED TO THE POLE. This prefigured the crucifix. God knew there would be people to deny his Church and he was warning them.

While the cross is a symbol of his sacrifice, as you said...it's also a symbol of his death. I personally don't wear a cross and while I respect the fact that some people do, I must admit that I think it's more pleasant to focus more on the resurrected Christ instead of the dying Christ. After all, he lives today, in all of us.

Not to mention that these days, the cross has become more of a "fashion accessory" than a religious symbol. I see it worn by all kinds of people, some who aren't even religious. Gothics wear the cross all the time.

We can all remember and acknowledge Christ in our own ways. I try to acknowledge him by being the best person I can be every day, praying every day, attending church as often as possible, reading the scriptures, etc.

By the way, I would also like to say that just because I don't wear a cross, I don't think it makes me "less of a Christian". The scriptures say, "By their fruits, ye shall know them", not..."By what hangs around their neck, ye shall know them", ha.

Because if Jesus hadn't died on the cross, we would all still be trapped in our sins, and we could never be suitable for heaven.

Christ's entire life, death, and resurrection were all salvific, but the crucifixion is where the most important work of redemption was carried out ... destroying Satan's evil dominion, repairing the rift of sin between man and God, and restoring grace to the world.

I am not Christian, but I must admit, I don't get the wearing the cross thing. To me wearing a cross to honor Jesus, would be like wearing a gun to honor John Lennon. I like the fish symbol better, as I think it symbolize the abundance of Christ (although I have heard it was some kind of secret code the early Christians used)

Anyway, to each his own. Everyone is certainly entitled to wear whatever floats their boat, regardless of what I, or anyone else thinks. I'm sure some people don't approve of my crystal, ying-yang symbol or my star necklace. That's what makes America a great place to live.

I might not agree with what you say or think, or wear) but I will defend your right to it.

The blood of Christ is what cleanses those who believe of all unrighteousness. This is a huge gift. Why wouldn't I want to remember the gift or the terrible price God paid to purchase life for us.
For you Christians that would never consider wearing a crucifix, I want you to think about the nature of Jesus. He said "before Abraham was I AM". Yes He was claiming to be God but that name is an attribute of God not only His name. Jesus was actually saying that He is now present before Abraham existed. He is omnipresent. To Him the creation of the world is in His present, and He is also enthroned at the end of the age. All of this in His present.. If this is so (and I know it's a hard thing to think of) He is and always will be nailed to the Cross dieing for our sins. That is the terrible price of purchasing our salvation.. Next time you see a crucifix think about what he IS doing for you right now. This, my brothers and sisters, is what John 3:16 is all about.. Praise Him for the Love he has shown us!!! Jim

I have wondered that myself. The only thing the cross really represents is Christs obedience to even die if the Father asks.
The real symbol of the miracle is the empty tomb. He is not dead, not in the tomb but Alive.
An empty tomb just isn't as pretty so has never caught on.

Catholics wear the crucifix to remember the sacrifice of Jesus. Protestants wear an empty one to remember his Resurrection.
