An open minded person is someone who will look at things outside of their box and consider other viewpoints.
My favorite college project taught me this. It was about women who cheat on their spouses. We had a militant black man, a handicapped woman, me (the fundamentalist) and an international student. I learned so much by listening to their viewpoints, especially from those who cheated and why they did. I can learn a lot more when I walk a mile in their mocassins.

With an open-minded person.... anything is acceptable, tolerable. They don't seem to have any moral convictions that can stand alone if the mass is saying something else. This is why I am flattered when people call me or other Christians narrow-minded because that means the exact opposite of them.

Since I don't tow the PC lines of "tolerance" (surrender) and "acceptance" (compromise), I couldn't give you the answer you want to see. I value my closed-mindedness. It's a valuable asset to have in these goofy times where everything is permissable and personal integrity means nothing. It helps one to deflect pressure to follow the herd. A built in deflector shield.

taking a nuetral stand or withholding open judgement based on my own beliefs in order to aid and or understand where another person is coming from.
It doesnt mean that ive forgotten what i believe in nor do i suddenly accept or tolerate what to me is unacceptable.
I do not have to be untrue to my beliefs in order to listen and or share my belief system.
As a christian who believes in sharing the Good News ,the worst thing I could do is display intolerance of someones life style.
building trust with someone you want to witness to is important.you cant build trust if they feel you look down on them.If they dont trust me they wont listen to what i have to say.
Christians who wear their intolerance /narrow mindedness proudly like a badge forget where they come from ,but for the grace of GOD go I. we are instructed to be intolerant to sin ,esp. in ourselves first and then in our congregation. but to always to display the love and mercy of God towards the world of the lost.
peace of God><>

People who are willing to respect and take to heart other beliefs/thoughts/faiths, etc. And people who realize that we are all going to interpret things differently, so not everyone will agree. Open-mindedness is a great quality.

Nowadays, I think it basically means you'll accept anything and everything. Funny how those of us who believe that there are somethings in life and the universe that are absolute and do not change are often seen as dumb and closeminded.

Giving each other a chance, means to let others speak their feelings, their way of thinking, their opinions of whatever without judging or criticizing on how they think or feel.

To me, being open minded means being able to accept a hypothetical even though it is adamantly disbelieved, such as an atheist answering, "Assume there is a deity..." or a Christian answering, "Assume there is no deity..." type question, without being offended by being asked such an assumption or feeling challenged by the assumption.
In short, to be able to view other points of view, contrary to one's own, without taking it as a personal challenge.

I think that "open-minded" would suggest a person who is willing to learn, from such things as dictionaries, perhaps.

To let others live the way they want, as long as it does not harm your home, your belief and your society.
