I would like to hear from anyone about what a middle life crisis can be overlooked and help with what an intrevert can do to change it even at my age.
Thank-You
Barbara

As far as I know there is only one herbal "medicine" that may work for some:St.John's Wart.Do NOT take this with any other Medication until you ask your Doctor. It should NOT be taken with Anti-depressants.See your Doctor about the possibility of you being depressed. You may not be(?).You just might be lonely.Do get lots of Daylight/Sunshine.Good luck Barbara.

Sometimes a middle age crisis (or any age crisis) can come when things change in your life (kids go to college, divorce, loss of parents) and you are not sure what direction to take or what to do with yourself. Sometimes it's a loss of feeling needed.

A nice vacation to a new destination, a new home, a new job can help. Little things like changing your lifestyle (to include exercise) or making new friends can spice it up. Volunteer at a hospital or preschool or help the needy.

I'm sure you have much to offer and can find much to enjoy - just get out there and do something new.

At age 55 you are in what psychologist Erik Erikson calls "generativity versus stagnation". At this stage you can feel useful by assisting the younger generation in developing and leading useful lives. If you feel you have done nothing to help the next generation you may experience stagnation, i.e., depression. You did not say whether you are employed. Even if you are, an activity such as volunteering can make you feel more fulfilled. You do not have to assist the younger generation directly; I volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center and a recycling center, both of which impact what the younger generation will be seeing in their own midlives. You are feeling introverted, alone and depressed; volunteering (and believe me, most of the agencies NEED volunteers!) will help you meet people with similar interests. Good luck!

I have found help from my psychiatrist and the right medications but I have also used the good old medicine called laughter! I think that is the best medicine for anything in the world, I have found if you can do something and laugh you are off to a good start. Try doing something even something silly that can make you laugh and just keep thinking about it and then do more to laugh then invite friends to visit and make them laugh and it changes your entire look on life it is amazing what laughter can do to the mind, body and soul!

Ever considered a natural Homeopathic or Herbal medicine to help with depression? It has worked wonders for many people who had no relief from prescriptions, or didn't know where to start, or just too imberassed to talk to someone about it. The great thing about Natural mood enhancers-they don't cause side-effects of any kind, like most prescriptions do. If you are interested in finding out more, check out link below.

I feel your pain. I can't suggest too many things with knowing you, and honestly, I'm at a loss myself. But....
what comes to mind, right now, is consider a puppy? Do some home work on it first, to find the right puppy to suit you and your life style.
Baby sit,
Drive a school bus,
Volunteer.....
Call your family or old friends, talk to them about it. They would know you best. Best of Luck

You should see a doctor, but preferably a mental health expert because antidepressants work best when done in conjunction with counseling. There aren't any stigmas attached to it anymore, so you have the right to take care of yourself. Why feel this way when you don't have to ?
