Hi

I'm looking for places that you can go fishing in or around New York City. Long Island is fine too and even New Jersey would be fine. I am looking for a place that has saltwater fishing and that you can rent a boat for the day for a reasonable price. Thank you.

Also, please try to give me places that don't require a fishing license.

If you want to fish from the surf or pier, Jones Beach State Park on Long Island is your best bet to catch something. You could go to Field 10, Jones Beach Piers, Jones Inlet, Field 6 or West End 2 for striped bass and bluefish. Also Robert Moses State Park in Suffolk County has piers and surf fishing. If you want to rent a boat, go to Scotty's in Point Lookout on Bayside Avenue. They rent boats there, and you could fish the bridges for fluke.

The only place you can fish without a license is a friends private pond. You need a license. All the little ports along long island have rental boats available. On the north side of the island, you can crab, or cats rock fish. ON the south side you can get into some shark as well. Have fun. Ask the place you rent from for some tips, they know the area better than anyone.

I've been wondering the same thing since i moved to new jersey. If you're willing to drive, there are lakes in central and west-central NJ that are good. I've been nailing the bass at ramapo lake recently. The hudson river has been cleaned up enough to be fished as well.

If you want to know just about anything to do with fishing, then this website is one of the best I have seen. Loads of good articles which you can read or listen to.

I seem to recall that they also offer a very good free report as well. It's well worth paying them a visit at http://www.fishinginformationguide.com . I would be interested in hearing what you think.
