No, no, no. I have both. Pugs are clowns and have an awesome and fun personality. They like a lot of attention and are very sensitive and athletic dogs. Chihuahua's are great too. They are real guard dogs and are actually very hardy if you get a good one. They are shaky sometimes and scared at others because they are so small. Pugs don't eat a lot if you know how to feed them properly. Most people keep their pugs fat and that is not good for them. Make sure you get a pure bred dog or you will have a lot of problems. They are both prone to certain diseases. They both have different but loving personalities. I think the pug is sweeter to people in general. The chi seem like they want to defend themselves b/c of their size. They are both awesome. Get both if you can take care of them! Pug noises are not that bad and they are fine to sleep with. Chi's are not yappy if you train them.

I have to agree with the above posters. Pugs are great. They actually only need to be walked around the block 2 times a day and one more potty break a day.
All they want to do is sit on your lap, play fetch and eat. The eating part makes training a breeze. With one treat you can teach your dog how to sit come stay and potty outside. It is great.
Regarding the breathing problems. I gave my pug a nose job when I got him neutered. It only cost an additional 50 bucks and I recommend for and pug owner. The nose surgery opens up the nostrils so they can breath better and he does not snore.
Plus pugs are quite and Chihuahua are yappy dogs.

A pug is much more fun, chichuchuas are too fragile and weak, and it' s too easy to break its bones, so it' s not suitable for first-time owners.
Pug' s temperament:
They are playful and charming. Clever and mischievous - with a heart-winning personality. They can be a bit willful. Highly intelligent, it bores easily with repetitive training practices. Pugs are sensitive to the tone of your voice, so harsh punishment is unnecessary. The dog is neither excitable nor dull. They are good watchdogs, very devoted and are not yappers. Pugs get along well with other dogs and pets, and they behave impeccably with both children and visitors. Do not forget though, that they require lots of attention and become jealous if their owner ignores them.
Chihuahua' s temperament:
The Chihuahua is a good companion dog. Courageous, extremely lively, proud and enterprising, it gives and demands affection. Bold and saucy, it moves swiftly to avoid being stepped on. Chihuahua's are strong-willed, intensely loyal and become very attached to their owners, even to the point of jealousy.

My sister has 2 pugs. They are precious. They're not as loud and nervous as chihuahuas. They do go thru a "bratty" stage for a few months. I think most puppies do though. My sister just keeps a basket of small toys and rawhide in the living room.

I have a pug and she is so much fun! I would recommend one for sure! The only annoying thing is her breathing is so labored with her short little nose that she snorts a lot, and having her in the bedroom when you are trying to sleep is annoying! If your dog will not sleep inside then get a pug! =)

Chihuahuas are easier to care for. Pugs need more exercise and food than chihuahuas.

I hate pugs.. personally... But i show and breed chihuahuas and truelly love the breed. They do not need alot of excercise. They are easy keepers They are great watch dogs. Mine love to play and clown around. they are not nervous and do not shake and quiver. i would just find a very responsible breeder. I like the apple head chi's not the deer headed ones.

I love pugs, but I have never owned one. All my life I have had chihuahuas around me. They are lovable, but are temper mental. They are okay with children if they are around them all the time. But if there are no children, then you must keep them away from children because they do not like them. And they will bite.
Yes I like my chihuahuas. They sound off the alarm when something is not right. They are extremely jealous, and will only devote themselves to one person. But will love others that it lives with. But it's love will only dominate one person.

Yeah pugs need more exerscize and they eat more, but I'd say they are the better dog, a little bigger and more hardy, not tiny and pitiful. No offense to owners, but i really think chihuahua's are pitiful dogs, too small....
