My kids ages 9 and 10 constantly have conversations with their friends about MONEY - whose parents are rich, how much they make, what they drive and so on. Also they talk about parents getting divorced, their relationships, and who does what for a living. When I was their age we talked about Much simpler things - toys and slumber parties - Are your kids talking this as well?

My wife and I are very private about these things around the kids, but when their friends are around, I hear it.

No, my kids don't talk about these things because they don't hear about these things! My husband and l are very careful to only discuss 'grown up' things among ourselves. l don't think our children would have any idea how much money we make, or our private relationship! A lot of parents talk wistfully about how children are growing up too fast these days, but don't seem to realise that they are allowing it. l'm a firm believer in children being children, and l'll fight for them to be able to keep their childhoods even when they won't!

My niece is 9 years old and when she and her friends get together, they talk about school, games, etc. I do not think they are aware of who is rich or what the father's do. Personally I would be horrified if they talked about things like money, cars, etc. That is terribly shallow. I hope your kids meet some friends with wholesome values who they can be children with.

i have to be frank , idont have kids, but i think you should see this way: its a image of nowadays! its sad but its true, maybe one of the kids is very rich and make competition with yours, anyways, i think you should have a long talk with your children about that, asking first why they talk about that so often and then explain that money is not the most important thing in the world!

Childern are tape recorders. It is just that those parents are allowing those kids to hear their adult conversation. Everytime my mom and her girlfriends got to talking, I was kicked out the room and I am keeping that tradition alive with mine daughter.

Unfortunately, yes. Our kids are growing up way too fast, and they know much about life that we didn't when we were young. At my daughter's 9th birthday party there was talk of making out and "doing sex" It was really disconcerting.

Yes, my son has a friend who is always talking about the cars they have, how much his dad brings home every two weeks, etc. It's very annoying!

Don't you think kids repeat what they hear at home?
