Because they get divorced, even more so than atheists. Leaders like Newt Gingrich get divorced, sometimes multiple times, and are winked at.
Not coincidentally, I just read an article in the new Marie Claire about a 22-year-old woman who was homeschooled and very sheltered, who married what was basically the first cute guy her dad approved of a few months after meeting him. This is becoming more common in conservative Evangelical circles. We're gonna have more divorces.
My own maternal grandfather was very much against same-sex marriage, including the idea of me entering one. I fired back once that he's clearly all for the institution of marriage as it stands, as he'd entered it 6 times with 5 women and was trying to reel in his next wife at the time.

look mate.
the fight for what is right and what is wrong will continue on until the end. You have your opinion and I have mine, you have your own life and so do I.
see things clearly, gay marriage and divorce are two different things for divorce can happen in any relationship even in gay marriages.
Everyone makes mistakes (I make them and so do you) and sometimes we rush into things without thinking. This does not give you the right to get divorce, but when things get out of hand (where their is abuse, cheating and so on) then their is no other choice.
don't take this as an insult for it is not. you want a answer so that is what I am giving you.
you see getting divorce will not sent you to hell, but being gay will for it is a sin against what God created (marriage).
weather you want to except it or not, but this is why we as Christians are against it and do everything to baned it. Because we want everyone one to get save and preach God's word like it is.
see there are things you don't understand about God and the Bible and aslong as you keep your mined shut you never will. This is why you put excuses saying that the bible is made from man and that is why you don't belive in it.
we only want you and society to be saved and that is why we deny legal recognition to gays.
one last thing don't judge all Christians just because you meet some one that calls him self to be a Christians and judged you or He talk bad to you for you will find these kinds of people everywhere. just like not all gay people are the same, their are also Christians that are not the same (for not all follow Gods Word).
God Bless

Christians should protect marriage by doing the things that will keep their own marriage going strong. In case you haven't noticed in America there are two major parties and neither one is the "Christian Party." So who exactly is pushing this point of view. Despite what some people believe about Christians there are quite a few of us who do believe in separation of church and state.

Let me just say that as a Christian myself I have always firmly believed that whatever other people do is between them and God and none of my business. I could care less about protecting marriage. If God wants it protected he'll do it himself. The Bible does say he "works all things after the council of his own will" (eph 1:11). If gay people want to get married then let them. You don't think that God knows everything everyone will ever do, don't you know that people only do what god wants them to do. Don't tell that to a Christian though.
I wish Christians would listen to the person they supposedly believe is their Lord. I guess none of them read the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector that Jesus told: Two men go to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee (pat Robertson, jerry falwell etc.) the other a tax collector (George Bush, Paris Hilton YOU AND ME!!!) the Pharisee says "I thank you God that I am not like other men, like the murderers and sinners and dare I say this stupid little tax collector here, I fast twice a week and tithe the tenth of all that I have". And the tax collector prays, he does not even look up to heaven, but he says in his heart "forgive father because I am a sinner". Jesus said "I tell you that it is this man, not the Pharisee who will walk away justified in the eyes of God; for whosoever humbles himself shall be exalted and whosoever exalts himself shall be humbled".

Catholics are not allowed to divorce unless it is a case of domestic abuse or similar.
I'm Catholic and am all for gay marriage.
They should have the legals rights any straight couple has. It's America; you inhibit their freedoms by saying they're wrong by being born with their sexuality. It's pretty much unconstitutional and a breach of the separation of church and state.

Sometimes I wish both christians and atheists would use spell check before posting a question!
many factors are contributing to our moral decay. watered down doctrine in christian churches, relativism, humanism, drugs, alcohol abuse....and christian apathy for the lost. the moral decline of our society can be laid squarely at the christian churchs's door.
homosexuality gaining a foothold in our culture is more a symptom than a cause. that being said....i must stand against ALL sin as a follower of christ. All sexual sin is wrong in God's eyes....whether it's hetero adultery, or homosexual penetration.

Actually many states have put into place Covenant marriage laws that make divorce really really hard. I'm 100% for those laws.
I have a Covenant Marriage and live in one of those states. It would be really hard for me to get a divorce. To get a covenant marriage, I had to go through pre marriage counseling and to get a divorce, by law I would have to go through a lot of counseling before a divorce would even be thought of by a judge. Divorces in covenant marriages are only granted by judges in very rare cases and that usually only involve serious felonies or extreme abuse cases.
So basically, when you apply for a covenant marriage, you are basically asking the law to bind your marriage permanently.
I'm a firm believer if you don't think your marriage could stand up to covenant marriage laws, you shouldn't get married. I feel that its the only true marriage.

I've always said the religious right cult should ban divorce. The reason many marriages end? You're right, it's divorce.

Super questions. Thank you and thank you. As Moral as Christians are, they sure do need to protect marriage. Hahaha! They have destroyed the concept of marriage. They fail everyday and get divorced! I should have the same opportunity. In fact, Gays like myself are known for being fabulous. We will bring the definition of marriage! Everything we do and touch turns to gold!

Doesn't make sense to me either.
If America is mostly Christian, and the divorce rate is climbing on 60% that means, by default, that most divorces are Christian which means they aren't following the sanctit of marriage and can't preach it to others.
