I think the fact that you are ONLY soliciting answers from believers about atheists is very telling. I think the fact that you only give 2 negative choices is also very telling.
Ever hear of the golden rule ? Let's turn this around. Pretend that someone here asked THIS question
"Atheists, do you believe Theism is mental illness, or ignorance? "
Please understand, I am only asking this hypothetical question to illustrate a point. I am not literally asking the question. So ask yourself how you would feel about a question like that ? Would you like to see an invitation go out to ATHIESTS only to discuss YOU ? Would you like to have such a loaded question asked about YOU, where all the "allowed" answers were negative ?
Why not just generally ask the question, "What do you think atheism is". Or ask atheists, why they are atheists.
PS - I am sure you are going to say that these types of questions are asked by Athiests. Two wrongs don't make a right. I have seen it from BOTH sides. Why can't we all just be civilized, and ask honest questions, instead of dreaming up insults, and then framing them as questions ?

A form of rebellion. Years ago, even though we were given a choice, people were really not allowed to not have a religion. Now it has become somewhat acceptable to not believe. So people are readily exercising that option because they can. Another thing that I think contributes to atheism is the idea that some people enjoy shocking others and this is a way to do it.

well, it certainly seems fashionable, a couple of bestselling books recently, a whole lot of people moving in that direction.
it is certainly a way to get attention.
it is impossible to "prove" the existance or non-existance of God. It is largely a matter of upbringing, indoctrination, environment, etc.
but
something happens. I can't explain it, but when it happens, you know it. freud would doubtless explain it as a form of hysteria. But, when a person really gets into religion and wants to believe, something usually occurrs.
also
when studying the Bible, it seems to be gibberish. At age 17 I read the Bible three times, with an ever-increasing feeling of dismay and disbelief. When I went back into it in my 30's trying to understand the metaphors, stuff started to fall into place. now I look for the reality behind the metaphor. I doubt that the Bible is 100% God's word, but do not doubt that much of it is actually inspired.
polite, thoughtful question. have a star

Atheism is been around as long, if not long than Christianity, so it's definitely not a fad.
Nor do I believe it's rebellion.
I believe it's people trying to put God in a box. That's not intended to be rude or disrespectful. God is beyond logic. We can't wrap our finite minds around Him.
Atheist (not only Atheist) try to make 'logic' out of something that is infinite.
That's just me humble opinion.

No, that is not a sort of insurrection. that is not something extra advantageous than a disbelief. human beings have not believed in gods in view that they have had the potential to have faith in any respect. Atheists have continuously existed. that is not something that all people started interior the 70's and 80's. Hell, non-believers have been tortured and killed for not falling in step with the church hundreds of years in the past. Christianity got here into capability via conflict and persecution. learn you background. They Catholic Church = capability. They wield capability over human beings, politics, countries... money, greed, vainness not probable, no. in the event that they have been quite stimulated with the aid of Jesus, they might not be dripping in wealth.

It's not ignorance. Believing in something with absolutely no evidence means you ignore contradicting reality. That is the ignorant position.
Atheism isn't a fad, since all people are atheists until someone (or some society) brainwashes them. Rebellion? No. We aren't rebelling against unicorns or Odin. However, there is a much-needed rebellion against all forms of foolish irrationality. Thank God! (irony intended)

Neither. It's just a different viewpoint from the "norm".
Not a fad. Not a rebellion. Just an opinion that's out there now.

I think there are true athiests out there that really think that they are the highest being in control of their own powers and everything...i pray for them. I also believe that there are those that follow it as a fad for attention, to fit in, to be different...etc. It's also a rebellion because they are speaking out against religion altogether.

It is neither. Atheism is simply the belief that there is no Higher Being.
It is FUNNY how you Christians work so hard to judge Atheists. You guys are so - well - uneducated.
Everyone is entitled to believe what they choose - who in God's name are YOU to judge ANYONE?
Oh that's right, your Bible says that God will judge all. Are you so arrogant that you would take on God's job? Think you can judge people better than God can? That is just silly.
