My daughter goes to daycare on Thursdays until 12:00 and then until 2:30 on Fridays.

Every Friday (only) the teacher insists she is sick. They say she is running a high fever and this past Friday we had to pick her up because they claimed she threw up. However, when we bring her home, she is just fine. She is 10 months old and teething. This past Friday, she came home, had lunch, played, etc. She had a slight fever (it never registered past 99.1) and they said she had a fever of 102. I have had her to the doctor twice and he said, "Baby's temps fluctuate). I am not the type to bring my child to daycare sick. However, why do they keep saying she is sick and we bring her home and she is fine? Do they not like her? They did have her this past Friday outside in 92 degree heat and she had a bit of a sunburn. Perhaps that is why she had a "fever?"

HELP. What do I do. I'm tired of them saying she is sick when she is NOT!

my son just turned 1 and in the past 12 months I have learned alot... if she's teething, she's running a temp. the outside temp (if she's outside playing) will make her temp go up - these are the things my daycare has even told me. and the heat can make her stomach upset and she can spit up a little but i would talk to them and tell them you're not paying for the time that you pick her up early if this continues. I don't blame you at all for being upset as I would be also. If they are allowed to give her tylenol, bring a bottle to daycare and tell them to give her some tylenol when she becomes a little fussy, that will calm her down and bring her temp down. Also, my pediatrician said they don't consider a child has a temp until it's over 100. as far as the burn... bring sunblock and tell them not to put her in the sun without it. you must approve that before they can put anything on her so i'd supply the bottle and tell them to do it.
hope this helps. if things don't change, i'd change daycares!

I can't imagine someone not liking a 10 month old baby. Do they have a short staff on Friday or want to get out early? There certainly seems to be something going on. I too would be tired of it. It doesn't seem as if you can count on them for daycare if they call you every Friday. Look for a different daycare if you can.

If there are not any other good daycares in the area and this one seems to give good care otherwise, then bring a thermometer and check your baby when they call you. tell them what her temp really is and say that is NOT a fever. If they still insist then you know something is going on.

Good luck to you.

I would leave the daycare. If you aren't getting the service you want, clearly its not going to work. Did you ever look into this daycare? They sound pretty incompetent to me. A 10 month old should never have a sunburn! Maybe they don't know what a fever for a baby is? Are they doing rectal reading or not? Many babies run fevers when they are teething. I would NOT bring a child to that daycare, simply because she came home with a sunburn.

I will say as a teacher who worked at a mothers day out program there was a little girl who was always sick and her parents said the same thing you did, when we get her home she is fine. I do know that we did use a digital head thermometer which recorded the temps and we would show her mom the temps. It wasn't that we didn't like her child it was that we couldn't take the chance of getting another child sick. And we didn't just take her temp for the heck of it we would pick her up and feel the heat radiating off of her. So that may be the case. There are day cares that will send kids home that are not minding ect. and use the sick excuse I have worked at those types too.

I had my daycare say that my dd was running a fever and I went to get her and I checked her THERE and it was like 99.1. I said that my doctor said that a teething baby doesn't have a fever til it is over 100...b/c exactly like you said, it can fluctuate. If you like this daycare other wise, make your doctor write you a note that this is not a fever. Just talk to them. I am a new mom and I learned that I just had to keep a very open relationship with my daycare provider b/c they are the people I am trusting with my baby! Just talk to them. If they are good, they will accept that.

Why not get a babysitter? Instead of having her with all those kids you could put her in a smaller setting when they are less likely to send her home when she is just a little sick. But they would send her home when she is more than a little sick. There are still in-home daycare providers who have structured learning time and have other children she can play with. All you have to do is look for them. You can try Craigslist.com or other sites like that. All you have to do is interview them closley. Best Of Luck

Time for a new daycare. Honestly. I am a daycare parent veteran (2 daycare daughters, ages 4 and 14 months) and my daycare does not call unless she is actually sick! Your daycare sounds like the daycare that cried wolf!

And WHY do they have the babies outside in the heat???? Thhat defies logic. I'd be PIOSSED if my baby got sunburned int he care of her "school".

Really, put them on notice and if things don't improve, they lose your money.

Best of luck-

I'm so sorry that they are acting the way that they are.

Your doctor is right. I would have her checked at the daycare and if your are right then tell them to be sure the next time.

And next time put some sunscreen in her diaper bag and suggest that they use your "BRAND" and then they won't be offended.

I would go with my mothers instinct and go to a different daycare.

The obvious answer would be to find a new daycare. There's nothing worse than leaving your child with someone your not comfortable with. You don't want to constantly worry about her-for peace of mind, and for your daughter, look elsewhere.

I WOULD BE SO DISCOURAGED IF I WAS YOU TO. I WOULD CALL HER DOCTOR AND ASK IF THE COULD RIGHT THE DAYCARE CENTER A LETTER TELLING THEM THAT SHE IS PROBABLY TEETHING WHICH WILL CAUSE A FEVER AND THAT SHE HAS BEEN SEEN AND IS NOT SICK. ALSO THAT SHE NEEDS TO WEAR SUNSCREEN WHEN SHE IS OUTSIDE BECAUSE SHE IS A BABY! I'M SURE THEY WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH DOING SO. AND IF NOT DO IT YOURSELF OR CALL AND TELL THEM THIS AND IF THEY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS TO CALL HER DOCTOR AT ### - ####. BUT...THIS ISSUE DOES NEED TO BROUGHT UP. GOOD LUCK PEANUT BUTTER!
