I find the counsel of others within myself, in the essence of any single moment.
It's all right here, right now. We're all right here, right now...

I bet I can count on one hand how many times I have sought out the counsel of another. I hold counsel within. I have met some guides while meditating, however, and was told that I was part of the counsel (that's what they called themeselves). So, that was neat. But, I hold my own counsel for the most part. If I need technical information on something, I do seek out other sources.

Truth is within. All your answers are within. The answers that come from outside are toys for the mind, concepts that will only need to be surrendered to make room for awareness. All genuine realizations occur in the root of Consciousness, behind your own mind, in a moment of stillness. Nothing else is of value, including this.

Yes. The Bible says there is wisdom in a multitude of counselors (Prov. 11:14; 15:22; and 24:6).

If you get in touch with being able to feel your own energy and pay attention to that, then you won't need counseling. Counseling is for people who can't pay attention to their minds and what they create.

Grace (not law) unto you, and peace (not division),
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus -> Christ.
If you lack wisdom, ask God (not men), nothing wavering.
I asked God, nothing wavering, and got it: understanding.
God is not [the author] of confusion, but of peace.
Peace isn't won by sides wars, but is the absence of wars.
Winning a sides war is as disastrous as losing a sides war.
For all blame game players get inducted into a hall of shame.
Such a hall includes law of law vs law & grace of law vs grace.
Being right to make others wrong: as deadly as being wrong.
War: what is it good for? Absolutely Nothing.
It's friend only to the Under-Taker: Law.
Peace can't be kept by force, but comes by understanding.
No law or ordinance is mightier than understanding: Plato.
With all thy getting, get understanding = grace glory: Solomon
Let there by LIGHT(ONLY)...And there was LIGHT(ONLY):
The GRACE(ONLY) of our Lord Jesus->Christ with you->all.
Amen.

I have found it useful to voice my thoughts when in doubt. This way I can see them more clearly. As for asking for advice: I may do it but in the end, any decision that I take (and its consequences!) will still be mine.

I have only limited insight into my own problems so I look outside myself in some way.

If it's ever been peer-reviewed, no need for a second source.

Yes to both. It depends on the situation.
