hi. i am 18 yrs old. i have my driving permit, but not my licence yet. however, i drive all the time, and i have never been pulled over or arrested for anything by a cop. my question is: if i do get pulled over by a cop, will he/she arrest me and take away my car since i don't have a drivers licence???

what will the consequences be for me???

will i just get a ticket or will i get arrested for driving my car without a license???

Go take your test already and be done with it. The rules have changed a lot recently for you younger drivers...so I can't say for sure. Just go get your license. It's not that hard. Look at all the stupid drivers in the world. Trust me when I say I would make the test a lot dam harder. :)

If you have your permit, and are following the restrictions of the permit, you're fine. CA has the graduated program.

This seems to be what applies to provisional permits:

Provisional driver license restrictions during the first year
Effective January 1, 2006, a new law will increase driving restrictions for persons under the age of 18 who:
Are issued a provisional driver license (DL) on or after January 1, 2006, or
Already hold a provisional DL issued on or after January 1, 2005.
Provisional Driving Restrictions—You must be accompanied and supervised by a licensed parent, guardian or other licensed driver 25 years of age or older or a licensed or certified driving instructor when you:
Transport passengers under 20 years of age at any time, for the first twelve months.
Drive between 11 pm and 5 am for the first twelve months.

Since you are not under the age of 18, it seems that doesn't apply to you. Why not take the test if you're ready, and get your full license?

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/dl_info.htm#2500 will give you the details you need.

Here is a section from the Cal DMV website.

"You will then be issued a permit if you have never been licensed before. When you practice, you must have an accompanying adult who is 18 years of age or older, with a valid California license. This person must be close enough to you to take control of the vehicle if necessary. It is illegal for you to drive alone."

Notice the last sentence. ILLEGAL. If you are doing something illegal it means you can be arrested. It means your car can be towed and impounded at your expense. It means they can suspend your right to have a license for a period of time. They may choose to take it easy on you but they don't have to. In addition, you are incurring financial liabilities. If you should be involved in an accident that it is determined that it is your fault, you would be liable and your insurance may choose not to pay since you were in violation of the law. You may be lucky and have none of the things I have mentioned happen but is it worth the risk?

You need to get your licence. The consequences are that you will go to jail if you don't have an adult in the car with you. Even though you are an adult the cop will question why you still have permit. Just go take the test get your licence and you can drive freely! Hope my advice works out for you.

are you supposed to be operating a motor vehicle under the supervision of a licensed driver in the car with you ? if so, and you are caught driving alone then i'd think you would be arrested and you may not be allowed to get your license for a couple years longer. i would ask your state Department of motor vehicle services for the rules concerning driving with a learners permit to be sure you are doing everything the right way. you do not want a record/fine or delay in getting your license. your insurance would also go sky high .. it's going to already be high just because you are considered an "inexperienced" driver. good luck to you.

Depends on the cop and the mood he is in. When I did that, I just got a warning and I had to get a provisional license. 9 times out of 10, you won't go to jail. You will get to keep your car if the insurance and registration are up to date, but you will not be allowed to drive it away.

Well it depends on when your permit expire. I am from Mississippi and if you do not have a license or insurance than that would be a HUGE ticket. You also have to look at your restrictions on the back of you permit. If you are luckey than the office will let you off with a warning!!

this happened to my friend once he was driving with just a permit and he got pulled over cause he forgot to put his lights on and they asked to see his license because i guess he looked a little young and he didnt have one obviously so he got arrested and put in jail for one night. his permit got taken away and he couldnt go for a new one until he was 21 and he got a big fine. but his all did happen in new york so where you live could be different.

I can tell you that in AZ, driving without a license results in a mandatory 30-day impound (think real hard about that, especially if you're driving somebody else's car) and a visit to see the judge. My son was driving my truck without a license and my truck was impounded and he was sentenced to 25 hours of community service.

they'll probably just give you a tucket if its your first offense. driving permit requires you have someone over the age of 21 [18 in some states] who have held their licence for at least 3 years.. like a parent or something.
