Excellent job opportunities, and Atlanta has a balanced economy: travel (Delta, world's busiest airport), Fortune 500 (Coke, Home Depot, UPS, Southern Company...), Technology (tons of software, Scientific Atlanta), Healthcare (CDC and Amer. Heart Assn based here), and the list goes on & on. The airport makes it cheap & easy to fly anywhere.
The city is vibrant with a great, young energy to it. Lots of young people and families. The city really is blended with a variety of ethic groups, and it really is the "city too busy to hate." Excellent track record with racial issues and such.
Lots of history & things to do. Good night life, excellent & growing arts scene and great sports teams. College football is the king around here, and there are two good sports radio stations. Check out ajc.com, the local paper site, or you can look up creative loafing magazine for specific tips on things to do. It is a 4 million person city - there is tons to do.
Travel is great from here. You are in the mountains in 90 minutes, in the country (rural) areas in about the same, and you are about 5 hours from the beaches in GA, SC or Florida. Three major interstates run through the city, and there are others around & north of here that make getting around "easy" except that traffic sucks. It is the one weak spot.
Cost of living is lower than most US cities. Real estate is affordable still. 3000 sq. foot brick home w/ basement on 3/4 acre will run about $280,000. Expect that the farther out you move, the bigger house you will get.
Hope this helps.

I like it a lot more out here than in Los Angeles myself. Beaches are anywhere from 4 1/2 to 8 hours depending on where you want to go. The outskirts to the west and south are a lot better than the north or east ends.

I'm not sure how St. Louis is, but I moved out here to Atlanta 3 years ago. There is a lot to do, but I would suggest moving somewhere on the outskirts of Atlanta. The cost of living drops when you head out 15 miles from downtown.
This all depends on what it is your looking for.

I don't think it is that great. I've been here for 5 years and am just now getting used to it.

I have never been there, I would love to go. Not sure how it is to live there, but I know it is a great place to visit.
