Physically, they look a lot a like, but there are some minor differences having to do with the abdomen plates. Prawns are typically larger than shrimp and there are some differences in breeding (prawn carry eggs and shrimps disperse them).

But with a good cocktail sauce, there's not a lot of difference other than the size... :-)

I'm pretty sure they're almost the same thing. The prawns are usually much larger. When we hear of prawns, we usually think more of a "luxury" food. Shrimp is just shrimp, but prawns-well-they're something above average.

Prawns are a different species. The gills of prawns are branched and they tend to be larger than shrimp. Otherwise they are virtually identical.

Generally they are the same. Prawns are usually larger. Also, in England they call them all "prawns" and do not use the term shrimp.

all i know is that in the UK they are called Prawns,and Shrimp in USA.

I think prawns are usually humongous shrimp.

think they are close, just one larger than the other. to me they are just sea bugs yuck!! never have liked them but the rest of my family does.
