Like previously stated the GT 40 is the race car of the 60's that smoked the Farrari. The model that yoiu buy today is just the GT. The gas millage per the ford motor company is mpg city 12 mpg, highway mpg 19, mpg combined 14

The last Ford GT I worked on had a 200 hp blower mod, putting the horsepower well over 700. I think that one measured inches of tread per mile instead of mpg, though.
Luckily the repair I did, even though quite minor ( the engine hatch would pop up under hard acceleration ), allowed me to go out and see what it had. WOW! Awesome machine!
Not really an answer, just some input. I really should have not done the repair right so I could see it return!!!

For the second answer, There are two Ford Gt's. The one that raced in the 60's and beat the Ferrari 3 times in a row is called the GT 40, The newer ones, 2005-present are called just pain GT's.

And the reason for the car to be called just the GT.
Some company was using the GT40 name and they trademarked it. Ford wanted to call it the GT40 again, but the dudes wanted millions of dollars to let Ford do it. Ford didn't want to pay the bucks to get something that was originally theirs. So to get around the copyright problem, they just shortened the name to the GT.
The original car was only 40 inches high, and that is where the name came from. The newer model is raised 4 inches to accommodate the taller people now.

well i know that they made gt40's in the late 80's as a non street legal car and i imagine since they are racing about 5-6mpg, but im sure youve mistaken the gt40 for todays new and improved FORD "GT" . well depends if you drive like a maniac or like your average minivan, well minivan driving is about city 12 highway 19 and combined 14. so if you like to drive like a car ethusiast then about 8mpg because im sure it can burn some gas when the pedal hits the floor, you plan on buying? "lucky man"

on a show called top gear they drove a ford gt on a track and it got about 4 miles to the gallon but that was a full track speed. the driver noted it was still under 10 to 12 under normal driving
