She thinks it is, but I have my doubts. It just started when she stopped taking her medication from the last time she heard voices. Should we pray or call 911?

Actually, I'm not joking at all. She did have another "religious breakdown" from stopping her prescribed meds. But it made me want to put forth the question to my R&S experts.......What's the difference between a mentally ill person who thinks they're hearing god, and the writers of the bible?

Auditory hallucinations are a common manifestation of schizphrenia. Visual and tactile hallucinations have also been known to occur.

I have a number of friends who have been diagnosed schizophrenic. One in particular, who has a PhD in Philosophy, often wryly comments that, in an earlier time, he would either have been venerated as a prophet or a saint, or condemned as being possessed.

It is not entirely improbable that the Pauline Chrisianity we know today is the product of a schizophrenic hallucinating on the road to Damascus. Schizophrenia would also account for every account of people "being spoken to by god", seeing burning bushes or dead people.

Where is the line drawn? Hearing voices telling you to do stuff = schizophrenia..but people hearing gods isnt schizo? Not much of a dif..just a matter of degree

¬what kind of meds is she on? I am a firm believer in the super natural, and psychic phenomenon, but it sounds more like this could be related to whatever condition she has the requires her to be medicated. sorry.

Blessed Be.

Call a PERSON for help , you know like a psychiatrist so she can get back on her meds or drive her to a hospital.

I believe God talks to us, but i do believe some people are delusional sometimes as well.
What kind of things are the voices saying?

It isn't a medical emergency that would warrant a 911 call, but I would contact her doctor and let him / her know what is happening.

I'd say get her back on the meds. I figure, if something really is a god, it could get past the meds.

Like Machaira said, if medications "blocked" God's voice, then it wasn't him. Get a doctor and see if they can explain.
