At 3 months, his testes should be easily found regardless of fur. If he has not yet been to the vet for vaccines and general wellness exam, I would get him in soon. Retained testicles need to be removed, as they can become prone to overheating (by the dog's own normal body temperature), testicular torsion, or in later years testicular cancers/prostrate cancers. The surgery will be a bit more expensive than a regular neuter surgery, as the doctor must go in abdominally to find and remove the testes, but is well worth it in the end. This is a congenital defect, and can be hereditary as well from either the mother or father, so don't plan on breeding this little guy.

Don't worry. There is nothing wrong with your puppy. I have a 6-month old shih tzu and his testicles are only now starting to show. I was concerned too after not seeing anything between his legs, so when I took him into the vet a month ago for his shots I asked my vet where his testicles were. And they were there, but because he's still so young they're very small and hidden underneath all that fur. There are cases where the testicles don't drop and the puppy would need surgery to have them moved, but such cases are rare.
Your puppy is such an infant. Give him some months to develop. And don't poke at him too much down there. It's obviously very sensitive in that area and you don't want to freak your dog out. If you don't see anything by the time he's 8 months to a year, then worry.
Oh yeah, and about his scooting around on his butt -- he most likely has worms. Common problem and very easy to fix. Puppies need to take worm medicine every 6 weeks until they're 8 months old. Take him to the vet and s/he will give your puppy something to clear up the worms in no time. ^^

I have a five month old Chihuahua and I can just now start to see them but they are still small. When you brought your puppy in for his shots they should have check there so call your vet to find out. Also the dragging the rear on the ground is unrelated to the testicles but could either mean he has worms, or his anal sac is full and needs to be emptied. The anal sac stores a fluid that dogs used to use for a sent marker. Sense they have been domesticated they don't use that sent sac anymore and sometimes it can fill up and become inflamed and uncomfortable. So a trip to the vet may be necessary. I will find a article on the anal sacs.

Testicules do descend during foetal life (before birth). Sometimes, they descend later but very rarely after 4 months old.
I suppose your pup is due for his 1st or 2nd vacination injection soon. get the vet to check it out: it is an important issue.
testicules NEED to be outside the body to be at a lower temperature than the boy temperature. Otherwise, they do not work normally: testicular cancer and agressivity will be far more common than with normally descended testicules. On the top of that, non descended testicules (cryptorchidism) is a congenital trait and will pass on to the next generation.
In conclusion, get your doggy checked by a vet, Should the testicules not be descended by 6 months of age, then get him castrated.

Rik

Stop messing with him. Take him to the vet. Some dogs have testicles that do not descend ever and stay inside , requiring surgery. ( Has happened to me...twice with pups ) He needs to be seen by a vet re: this matter, sooner the better.

Yes, it certainly could be an allergic reaction. Don't take it to your nan's house until you find out. A vet visit is your best option.

if they dont "drop" in the next 3 months, then you should go to a vet and have him neutered. They will do that because the chances of him get testicular cancer are higher, because his body cannot then regulate the temperature of the testicles the proper way. good luck.

They may be inside of him.
Bring him to the vet especially if he is yelping or is sensitive in that area.

there is no set time for a puppy to 'drop' his testicles..it could be 8 weeks and some as long as 8 months....as far as him acting fidgety when you approach that area, that is a behavior problem...let him know that you won't hurt him...maybe give him a nice massage and slowly approach that area........
