Deport all illegal immigrants immediately including any offspring that they conceived while here illegally. If one parent was a legal citizen then they may appeal the deportation of the child if they can prove a means of support. Close all borders......then allow entry only to those sponsored by a US citizen that can prove that they will have employment and a place to stay with total support none of which will be taxpayer funded. All admitted would additionally have to pass all exams and screenings. For those that had been here without paying taxes a requirement to pay in full the amount owed within a certain time frame with no unreasonable penalties. If the deportees had established ownership of a business illegally during their "visit" then that business would be placed in the hands of a mediator whom could either sell it to pay debts owed or negotiate a means of operating it as an absentee owner until re-entry has been approved.

My Grandparents were immigrants....they came here legally by sponsorship of my Grandfathers oldest brother, They lived with him and his family until they established themselves and found their own home were gainfully employed, he was a glass blower and she was a seamstress, paid taxes, supported themselves and family completely without any social programs, lived by the law of the land and helped to bring other relatives over as they could. This is how America was built and it is the way it should remain! All this was done in accordance with the laws with proper documentation, communications and applications to the U.S. authorities. We are now working on five generations inclusive of Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants, Teachers, Business Owners and Students.

Kathy: to answer your question, my Grandfathers brother was sponsored by another family, I think it was his wife’s Uncle. His wife joined him later. At one time there were no immigration laws. As laws were written folks were expected to obey them. The problem is all the scams to try and establish citizenship under false pretense.

Cyras and Ryan: I am not against the idea of immigration, I simply believe that it has always been able to be done legally, so why should America accept those that break the law to gain entrance to our country? And only those who are here "illegally" would need to worry about deportation, just as you would from any other country you may be found in without proper documentation.

You know, yesterday I read a proposal that consists of not giving illegal immigrants any benefits like welfare, health care, etc. and I thought the idea was good because this idea would leave these people without any money to stay in the USA and will return home. Thanks!

I think that sounds like a great idea. I am very much against illegals, but like you said I am not against legal immigration. I have two legal immigrants that work with me right now. I really like both of them. I don't feel prejudice I just think we have to control this situation. This country isn't big enough for every person on the planet to live here That is why immigration laws were started in the first place. I grew up in a small town, and graduated with a class of 30 people. My kids go to that same school now and each grade has 100 kids. The worst part is that 40% of those have parents that can't even speak English. Every where I go now there are stores that have opened that I don't even know what the sail because the signs out front are written in Spanish. That is something else that bothers me, you see all the american stores put things in both Englist and Spanish but the Spanish speaking owners don't care if we can read the signs or not. To me that sounds like they don't want us around, like they want us to move now because they are here.

If all of you would read the article that Pinelake posted for his answer from the washintonpost.com, you would be able to understand more about the reason behind the reform bill. Also, like I have stated before, most complaints on immigration seem to be from state to state. Those that have a high concentration of illigal immigrants rather it be Mexicans (which are composed of Hondurans, Columbians, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans, and many other central and south American countries to be more factual) and Asians and Middle Easterners, each city and state has problems with any and all due to who resides there and the laws concerning them (same problem during the turn of the century in New York - we didn't hear anything from many of the other states). If your beef is with illegal immigrants using your Social Service assistance programs then contact your reps on that and get some reform and better, stiffer, proof of residency requirements with SS# searches added to their computers we have it in NC. If your complaint is with tax evasion or not paying taxes then you need to make sure who is and who isn't not just the illegals but the American citizens that we have here that have not paid taxes either. Every time someone works for you or does work for your company then do a taxes paid request and a D&B check on them before you hire them to do the work. Dunn & Bradstreet will have a credit history on them including taxes paid from their business also all of those who are working under a 1099 / that pay their own taxes. Many of our illegals have a W-7 tax id number and have been paying taxes legally and correctly over 5yrs. Also, they pay for the property tax and tags when they own a car. Can't get a tag without paying the tax first.
In point, look to your state to make changes on your illegal immigrant situation first then take that to the Federal govt.

Any property seized should go to pay the $5,000 fine they are supposed to pay per illegal upon getting caught. This money could then be spent on building the wall, not fence, for our border with Mexico. The people deported should be put in a national database of deportees so that the next time they get caught, and they will come back, their property can be sold to pay the $10,000 fine per person. If we don't seal off this border, we're going to lose our country. Rallys are going to be held everywhere to fight this Shamnesty Bill, S. 1348. Find out when and where the rally is and ATTEND. Talking can only get us so far. We need to do something. Call your Senators now. Today! Tell them that you are fed up and they need to throw this bill in the trash, along with Bush and Kennedy.

And just how did your Grandfathers brother get here..we were ALL illegal at one time or the other, not all "illegal" people are crap, some pay taxes, hold good jobs, or own businesses while waiting for citizenship to come through..the FBI is now holding files for over 3 years! Fair??? NO!
My husband came in legally, we spent a year together before getting married, pay taxes..and yet he is still "illegal" Don't lump all into one category..thanks!

Hey not everyone can come here legally, back in the day, it was easier for your ancestors to come here....Just as it was for my ancestors....Why don't you fine illegal employers? Why just punish these people? They are not the only ones guilty....How about we sue the govt?

I agree and I was never illegal as someone says we all were. You don't have to gather and deport 12 million people if you make people who hire and house them pay the fines that the law requires the 12 million will leave on their own. NO jobs, no houses, no medical treatment, no schools no need for people to stay here illegally. If the grass isn't greener here for them they will leave.

Unfortunately, you are making sense. The politicians in D.C. have abandoned all reason with this stupid bill.

Keep up the pressure. Notify your political party that you will suspend all donations directed to the party and will instead donate directly to the candidates who oppose this bill. Furthermore, we will donate directly to those candidates that oppose the politicians who support this bill in Every future election until they are gone, gone, gone!!!

Deporting all illegal immigrants and their offspring? That's not going to happen. You need to come up with something more practical.

I think you will find that people like you are more likely to fail your exams and screenings, whatever they may be. Sounds a bit like a neo-Nazi policy of ethnic screening! Thank goodness that people like you are restricted to typing your fanciful trash on Yahoo chatrooms rather than free to roam the streets where you may pose a menace to society.
