We applied to buy the car sending the money to a so called ebay safe harbour account. Only to find that ebay safe harbour dosnt exist, we have traced one other couple who fell for the same scam, and we are in the middle of catching them out again...

Let me guess, the scam went something like this -
The car was not in the UK.
You couldn't test drive it first.
The owner claimed to be working/living abroad, but the car was UK registered.
The price was WAY below the normal book price, because the owner 'had to sell very urgently'.
You got greedy and thought you could actually buy a car for half what is was really worth.
You sent the payment by Western Union, to a person you had never met, for a car you didn't even know existed.
It's a very common, well known scam (and not just on eBay) - too many people actually believe they are going to get a £20,000 car for £12,000 (or whatever). Like they say, there is one born every minute...

Not fraud, but a have bought 2 £500 cars off there, which have both broken down after a couple of months, I wouldn't recommend buying anything off ebay which is more money than you can afford to lose.
I know people who have bought clothes off there paid for them and then the user has cancelled his account and never been able to get his money back.

in case you opt for to purchase on ebay, there are some issues to evaluate. in case you at the instant are not close, you will could the two have the vehicle shipped or get your self out to it so which you canpersistent it domicile. you're able to decide for to pay for it on the instant upon "prevailing" the prevalent auction. there is not any having the prevailing bid and then finding out you do no longer decide for it. I extremely have offered quite a few automobiles on line and have yet to be upset. i understand what to ask and the thank you to tell whether that's being spectacular represented. I even have materials to look at a vehicle with out my having to pass there in person. in case you at the instant cannot doing that, i could advise buying domestically the place you could examine it in person and don't have transport to be aggravating approximately.

All the same scams are going on in Autotrader and Exchange and Mart. car looks cheap email them and they say they've taken it to there new house abroad and will ship it back to you.
Basically never hand over any money(including deposits)untill you have seen the car at there address and done all the correct ownership and HPI checks

hi, ebay is probably the worst place to buy a car! if the car is any good it should be sold on autotrader etc..many dodgy people hoping to sell it on the blind! I am in the trade & have many GOOD cars for sale, all on the internet via autotrader. be very careful!!
