I am sure that rumor is being spread by Christians because they don't want to engage in discussions with atheists. They rather just hit the abuse button on honest questions.

Well Im sure most of these answers show you the hostility between the Athiests and the Christians. How they are both blaming each other. Really its both. And more than just those two groups of people. There are some very good people on R&S. (such as Pangel and Debra M) but some people on here just come to be hateful.

You can only judge for yourself.
My impression is that there are more sincere people than there are those trying to stir up animosity.
Some people seem to construct arguements a bit too personally, and take them personally, either being told they're stupid if they're Christians, or going to hell if they're not.
After all religious differences are often a subtext to going to war in the real world, so there's going to be some reflection of that mindset on R&S.
I personally find apparently wilful closed-mindedness to be an insult to the world. But am a bit careful as maybe I've got more of a closed mind than I think I have.
Now **** off with your stupid question!
(joke).

No, I don't think so. People who ask questions that don't believe in the Lord Jesus Christ sometimes get negative and hateful but what more can you expect when they don't get the answer they want. There is alot of debate here concerning Jesus and the Bible and when someone doesn't believe and really doesn't want to listen then they do get mean. It doesn't bother me though, I know a greater power and I just pray for them as my Father has instructed me to do.
God Bless.

Nope. No one really hates anyone here. Religion is a touchy topic and everyone has a lot to say to defend themselves...so its competitive not hateful

it's just the people who are spending too much time reading and quoting and arguing the Bible amongst themselves, they don't get out there and live it ! Also, there are people who although they believe God created EVERYTHING, wouldn't know what to do with themselves, if life was discovered elsewhere, because it would discredit parts of their Bible. (I'm so Christian, it's bred into me, but I don't want to be ignorant, and I'm not the only one. Why is it, that it's frowned upon, to question something in your religion ?)

I don't believe so, no.
Sometimes we all get a little testy ... but generally we're pretty cool with each other... just remember the Debra M
day when we all sent her tribute to get well. All faiths and no faith got together in wishing her well, I thought that was pretty cool!

Some people might be.
Religion is really very hard to discuss here and everywhere, because it is really related to who you are, much more than to what people want you to be. That's why it can become very personal, therefore offensive.
Peace!

I find your question interesting and amusing in view of the fact that you're calling yourself "I will destroy you". That shows an attitude right there.
