Yes, I think that's true.
Religion makes use of many types of emotional manipulation. If people were stripped of these superstitious beliefs, whey wouldn't be subjected constant promotion of fear of Hell, empty promises of Heaven, pity for martyrs, a sense of self-worthlessness, a Big Brother type invisible watchdog, and various in-group bonding tactics and out-group division and fear mongering.
Then people might be able to see how we are all human, with all of our strengths and weaknesses and be less likely to see everything in such dire terms. They would, I believe, find a deeper sense of peace and happiness in the real experiences of life and be more able to accept the good and bad within it.

I think people would be happier over all. Right now the entire image I get from religious types is all the bad stuff is there fault but any thing good that happens is a direct result of their deity.
Its such a defeatist attitude when you say I can not do anything good and everything bad is my fault. Heck talk about depressing.

I AM Happy with my faith in THE LORD JESUS CHRIST and the Bible that espouses christianity. This position pins me the hope of eternal life of joy and rejoicing in eternity. In fact, even in human terms one can find semblance of human activities in eternity such as the VISUALIZATION program where by one's vision one can create an infinity of images. If this is possible to men then my sense of wonder tells me that there is GOD who will give me eternal life and joy and unending happiness BECOMING god or LIKE-GOD through the unending omega -the unending world of the gods or LIKE-GODS. THANKS GOD; FEAR GOD; PRAISE GOD; GLORIFY GOD; HONOR GOD; LOVE GOD AND WORSHIP GOD. Pls visit my website-http://group.yahoo.com/group/THEGOODNEWSOFTHEKINGDOM/

No. But you're convinced. What would be the point of telling you that you don't believe what you believe?

Putting my faith on anything works very well thank you! It's just this optimism backed up by feelings and divine intuition!!!
How about you delude yourself into faith and "holy books" and see how "reaaaallll" it is???
