I'm not saying an electric chair existed in 30s CE. However if Jesus existed in 2007, in the United States he could have been executed by electric chair.

How come I'm told I'm unoriginal, but when others ask serious questions about religion they are not told that they are unoriginal?

I've heard a preacher use this same exact idea for a sermon. His point was that Jesus took an object of a shameful death, the cross, and used it as a sacrifice for our sins. We as his followers, then take up the same symbol, and wear it in identification with Jesus' sacrifice. For the Christian it is a reminder of God's love. In this way an object of revulsion has been transformed into a symbol of love.

If Christ had died in an electric chair then the same thing would have happened. People everywhere would have used a stylized version of the chair. The chair would have meant something more significant and believers everywhere would find God's love. Another object of revulsion would have been transformed.

Well, good morning to you, too. I first heard that question about 25 years ago. Maybe you can think of a new instrument of death to mock with? Lethal Injection, so we can wear a hypodermic around our necks? Seriously, I've been mocked by alot more imaginative folks than you, so go have some coffee and come back later.

I don't like having crosses everywhere and don't wear them. However the point that people are trying to get across is that it is through the cross that we can have eternal life. So technically yes they would. However I do not thing crosses would be so big if they were still used so your questions doesnt really apply.

Probably. It is to remind us of the sacrifice He made for us. To remind us of the love. And to remind us of the hope of an eternity with Him. I'm quite sure He doesn't mind. It's not as though our sick and twisted minds wear the cross as a reminder of the pain. It humbles us to see it. To remember that because of us He was on the cross, and that it was a CHOICE, because of His love for us.
